Re: Wine Pricing - Canada and US

The Tignanello is available many places south of the border for $60-$70. The Canadian dollar is about 77 cents US at the moment, so that price (=US$77) is slightly higher than you'd pay at home. John, thanks. where are you seeing the prices you cite for the Tignanello? I don’t see anything close to...

Re: Wine Pricing - Canada and US

Markus - I think buying online in the US has eliminated much of what you’re talking about. I also understand there isn’t much differentiation between pricing of high end wines in provinces in Canada. That said, I’m in NS and am referring in particular to Antinori Tignanello 2015 for C$99 at retail a...

Wine Pricing - Canada and US

Spending the weekend in Canada and finding incredible values on Italian wine but that US wine is very expensive (all relative to buying wine at retail in the US). I assume the US taxes imports more than Canada and perhaps other countries do the same to US wines. Any thoughts?

Re: Is Vivino toeing the legality line with marketing?

I agree with others, it’s hard to even read the Vivino emails anymore given all the fluff.

That said, the offer sold out so I guess it doesn’t matter what we think.

Re: TN: 2002 Clarendon Hills Syrah Moritz (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon)

I had an ‘05 Clarendon Hills Piggott Range recently. Really enjoyed an ‘08 I had last year, so had high hopes. This one was super sweet and syrupy. No balance or structure. Maybe a bad bottle?

Re: Shipping season, when things come home to roost.

Does anyone else feel like shipping concerns are overblown? Before I paid attention to this stuff, I would order wine year round. Mostly $20-40 bottles so not a huge loss if something went wrong, but I don’t recall ever having an issue with wine shipped in the summer.

Re: Masters Champions Dinner - Patrick Reed's Picks

Interesting to look at past menus online. Not surprisingly, Bubba’s was the worst (plain grilled chicken and confetti cake dessert). He even ran back the exact same menu for his second one. Patrick’s menu looks much better. Speith and Willett both served Caymus SS. Phil did Silver Oak. Adam Scott lo...

Re: Birth year wine

Numerous threads on this, but if your dead set on California I’d choose producers carefully, Dunn, Ridge, Togni ect. I don’t think it’s yet been sorted out who was affected by the fires either. I think this whole process is really done for the parents in actuality. Not too many 21 year olds are goi...

Birth year wine

My son was born in 2017 and I’d like to get some wine from this vintage to save for (much) later in his life. I’m inclined to go with California cabernet, although there are obviously some nuances to 2017 to be aware of. How have others done this? A few magnums? A mixed case or two of favorites from...

Re: Vice Versa Today

How do the VV cabernets stack up against similarly priced options from Napa? I’ve seen the 100 pt ratings, but $200+ is steep, at least for me. Realm is pretty much the only wine I’m (selectively) buying at that price point.

Re: New here: tips on SQN aging

Somewhat unrelated question, but I’ve never had SQN and would like to pick up a ready to drink bottle to try. I can’t keep track of the different wines they offer. Can anyone recommend one or two (ideally on the “lower” end, which seems to be about $300) that are particularly emblematic of their sty...

Offsite storage NYC - Specific Questions

I know there are a number of threads on this topic, and I believe I’ve read most of them. I’m looking for more specific and current advice on two questions: 1. Which sites are actually available? Many threads mention waiting lists. 2. Which sites have low/no minimums? I’m only looking to store a few...

Re: Upcoming Realm Release

I maxed out the allocation last fall as well (except Absurd, which I just couldn’t justify) and didn’t wishlist anything. Will be interesting to see what we are all offered on this one.

Has anyone seen ratings for this release. I’m on Vinous but don’t think they’ve rated Realm in the last few years.

Re: Upcoming Realm Release

I think they all run $200+. I also placed my first order last year and am not sure we’ll make the cut for the single vineyards this spring. I believe the production is much smaller.
