Re: TN: 2016 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

Damn, the WSPro low for this is $420. I guess I’m fortunate I never got to fall in love with it before the price moved almost into the First Growth category. It's the effect of the vintage hype. Other vintages are cheaper and, for drinking now, probably better (had '16 recently and it was good but ...

The Nez du Vin aroma kit came back but unfortunately the point value was raised by nearly 10K points (I think it was 66.5K when I applied and now it is 75K). Still put in the order but not a great look.

Re: Top WHITE Burgundy vintage of the 21st Century so far

I had a bottle of Lamy's 2014 Chez Derriere Haut Densite in November and it was spectacular, so his 2014s definitely have plenty behind the acid. Yes, not surprised that the HD has the stuffing to go against the acid compared to a humble bourgogne blanc. My example was to highlight that, as always ...

Just as a casual observer of tasting notes, one thing I have noticed about 2014 is that the greatness is not as evident in Cellartracker notes where people evaluate the wines. The 2019 offers have been quite disappointing. I get that it’s a great vintage and yields are down, but there are plenty of other good to great vintages or wines this decade that are cheaper. And a number of US sellers are still pricing in tariffs so not inclined to buy early unless a wine or price ...

These baskets, while “not contemporary” are much better than many I’ve seen. I would think a little more modern material and twist on this design could sell very well. For old ones such as these, it's a buyer's market: I pay around 20 EUR a pop for them in French antique shops. No one really knows ...
