+1 on that Cabot deal. I had a 2011 Cabot Syrah last week. To get that kind of age for $30, it is a no-brainer purchase.

This was my second Berserker Day. I bought 43 bottles (compared to 30 last year) and stayed on budget. It helped that I had $400 in an "offshore" PayPal account. I would suggest joining LF's club. It is the only one I belong to. Easy and painless with no forced shipments. I had to skip the last one and Brian had no problem with it.

I'd also suggest looking for red wine with age on it. The tannins will soften over time; just last week my tannic-averse better half enjoyed some 2007 California Cabernet Sauvignon.

For all the weeping and gnashing of teeth, I had The Macallan Rare Cask a few years back. It was spectacular. Now, $299/bottle spectacular? I dunno. But the bartender giving you a nip for free? Quite spectacular indeed.

I recently found a 2005 Lange Freedom Hill Pinot Noir on the bottom shelf of a liquor store. It was standing up, covered in dust, and still had the original price tag of $24.99. Sometimes you gotta say "what the heck" so I took the gamble.

It was flawless!
