A plus one on Amavi where we received a warm welcome from long-established winemakers and who also gave us useful pointers elsewhere. One thing nobody has yet mentioned. On the highway coming into Walla Walla from the west you'll drive past two of the oldest of old-school wineries: Woodward Canyon a...

Re: Questions you ask on a winery tour/tasting visit?

I ask about the amount of Mega Purple and oak chips used in making the wine, how much they pay Wine Spectator to inflate their scores, how much Syrah they sneak into their pinot noir, and stuff like that. And I bet you get given a lot of free wine with questions like that. .......from a special box...

I hosted a party last night for around 40 people. This time of year I always have the theme of Mince Pies and Mulled Wine. I went in for a half dozen. There's a lot of $20 St. Emillion currently out there from 2015/16 and I've been stocking up.

Your buddies liked the wine at 130 sterling, so around $160 US. They went onto to Vivino anticipating seeing it at perhaps $50/$60 retail. Instead it's available at $14. What's not to like? I had the K Vintners Charlotte recently. Essentially a Rhone blend but with a small percentage of Picpoul and Grenache Blanc in the mix. I drank it over several days. Certainly a novel wine and plenty of expression there but ultimately the white additions were just a little too jarring for me.
