Smoke Taint-Oregon Pinot
Recently read an article about Oregon Grapes and Smoke Taint. They are selling a growers collaboration called The Oregon Solidarity, with three choices from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and a Rose. I find it fascinating that they are able to determine which grapes were overly tainted and which weren't. I ...

If I were starting fresh, I would taste every producer who makes a wine from the Cote de Nuits labelled simply Bourgogne . I would avoid reds from the Cote de Beaune until I acquired a deep appreciation for the Cote de Nuits reds for context. My next step would be to try older Bourgognes. I would t...

I guess the first question I have to ask - what types of wines do you normally drink? Second, are you purchasing this for your own consumption or to eventually sell? I agree with many of the comments here, with some personal thoughts: 1. Haut Brion over Lafite 2. La Mission Haut Brion over Haut Brion, if price a factor 3. Backfill on a more mature bottle of Haut Brion over a 2016 4. A case of 2014 Les Carmes Haut Brion over one bottle of Haut Brion More on the ...

Re: Wine ratings-Help me out
The price difference is supply and demand. Demand based on reputation. Lafite might be "better" than Haut Brion to a majority of the population but unlikely most would say it’s worth twice as much based on taste alone, i.e. blind tasting. Lafite is a great wine but it commands an extra pr...

Do you have any experience with past vintages and the style of the two houses? They are far from the same style IMO. I prefer Haut Brion and would choose it even if the prices were equal, though I’m likely in the minority. Two bottles of Haut Brion vs. one of Lafite is a no-brainer for me. I don't ...

Without knowing anything more, I would choose Haut Brion because (1) it is my favorite Bordeaux producer and (2) it is more distinctive than Lafite. There really is nothing at all like Haut Brion other than arguably La Mission Haut-Brion, but if you like Lafite then other Pauillacs can deliver an e...

I recently just finished a bottle of Red Table Wine called Pleiades from Thackrey and Co and I really enjoyed this wine. The question of what size to get is a tough one. Of course, budget comes into consideration. So does how much space you have, as the bigger ones can loom large in a room.
