Most good/great wines are not filtered. Have no idea what the premise of this thread is. Most good and great wines from the Mosel are filtered. There are lots of truly great wines that are not filtered and lots that are. It’s a tool, and in cool vintages filtration of red wines can be a benefit by ...

Most good/great wines are not filtered. Have no idea what the premise of this thread is. You might be right, but until producers state that they do not fine/filter 100% of the time or that they use animal product free alternatives 100% of the time they are leaving money on the table. I AM ALL FOR CORRECT NUMBERS. Not sure why so many misread that. I am saying that many do not specify correct numbers, some by a way greater margin than legally allowed, to boot. Labeling a 15.6% wine as 13.9% is illegal, no? Some check out at over 16%. VIEW DAVID RAMSEY INTERVIEW. Winemakers in CA ...

Greg's point - albeit made with a regular vs a velvet hammer - is that some who DO choose to select and purchase based on alcohol levels might be 'mislead' based on that number - and it's unfortunate that some wines may not be chosen because of this one fact. Cheers! Larry, it still went "wooo...

For a long time, the alcohol listed on a label of European wine had more to do with math than chemistry: WineAlcBoundry - WineLowerRange where WineAlcBoundry = 14% and WineLowerRange = 1.5%. Oak has nothing to do with this, IMO. Old/neutral barrels can also display cola notes. Clones? Not sure. Its not the barrels, per se, but the combo of mash bills and yeast. 2 different mash bills (more rye in one) with 4 different yeasts creates a number of taste profiles. Depends on your palate preference: more "fruity", less, etc.
