2016 Tempest - $95

I really like Eleven Madison Park. I don’t recreate the recipes exactly (way to complicated); the book provides a lot of inspiration behind the dishes that I create.

MAXEM is a new project from Sam and Nancy Kaplan. Sam makes the wine for Arkenstone, Vangone, and Memento Mori. He also used to make Nine Suns up until 2017 vintage. Basically, its Sam Kaplan's (Arkenstone, Memento Mori, Vangone) personal venture/label, where he makes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the UV Vineyard from the Calera and Wente clone, respectively. Burgundian in style.

I agree that it is worth paying attention to a downward trend in scores/reviews on CellarTracker, but I wonder if the negativity given to the 2017 vintage as a whole is playing any role in why they are coming out lower. Even though the wines I'm sure are exceptional, I personally think the reviews on Cellar Tracker were slightly disappointing when compared to the 2016s, both taking into account the heat spikes (not concerned about smoke overall) in 2017, as well as the $20 price increase for the O.G. and La Verdad...
