Re: 2021 West Coast Weather and Farming Thread

Have looked around and even drove to a few spots in Anderson Valley. Looks like a bunch of really ugly growth out there. Saw some truly damaged and stunted growth in cordon Pinot vines.... luckily not ours. Made a call or two and seems widespread. Guess is vines went to bed dry and woke up dry. Didn...

It is a real challenge to use sprinklers or hoses to combat frost damage. That is certainly used in my neck of the woods and it is effective - but requires a tremendous amount of water. You can end up with different clusters ripening at different times, depending on whether the shoots were pre- or post-frost, right, Casey? At most of those temps they spoke of (18F) they will all be secondary shoots. When we got nuked in 2008 (very dry 27F) we lost 90% of all green tissue. Will hav...

I'm new to frost damage in wine, but given where we rae in the season, is this unrecoverable? It’s a good question. Vines and other plants have suppressed buds that will eventually take off and keep the plant alive. But flowering and fruiting will be delayed to such an extent that any possibility o...
