Re: Wine list help - Frasca October 2019

I love Frasca. In my view, the main strength of the restaurant is the level of service. The food itself is ranges from "very good" to "outstanding" (only occasionally truly exceptional). The wine list is lengthy, but it's also pricey and strangely lacking in selections under $100, especially reds.....

I think one of the biggest challenges here is agreeing that we are experiencing the same flavors/aromas and agreeing what we are experiencing. In addition, in looking at that WSET list of aromas, I think there is room for 'disagreement' on some of these - for instance, I tend to get cinnamon elemen...

Primary - all the characteristics coming from the vineyard and grape (fruit, floral, herbaceous)
Secondary - all the characteristics coming from the wine making process (oak, malo, lees contact, etc)
Tertiary - all the characteristics coming from maturation. (graphite, mushroom, forest floor)

What was bad about it? The 2017 was much more raw/unformed on release than the lauded 2016. It has mostly rounded into form now. extremely under ripe, fuchsia color and briney. Acid way out of balance. In its defense it was pitted against a 93 Turley Hayne Vineyard Petite Sirah, an 06 Spring Mounta...
