Re: Wine Spectator Cover Story on California Pinot has no mention of Rhys

That's a low blow. We can have a discussion on the differences between a larger company, and a small family owned producer. But Jackson has a history of buying very good, small producers, and allowing them to maintain their quality and identity, while giving them a nice financial and organizational...

Re: Wine Spectator Cover Story on California Pinot has no mention of Rhys

I am not sure why people are complaining. I am sure that they hit every pinot made by Jackson Family Estates. Should be enough for the readership of the WS. That's a low blow. We can have a discussion on the differences between a larger company, and a small family owned producer. But Jackson has a ...

Re: Shipping from CA to East Coast

I have a few bottles with Benchmark, Winebid etc. that I am readying shipment for. It is 80F in Napa but Benchmark is telling me (i) this is an acceptable temperature to ship and (ii) if they wait 2 weeks it will be too cold to ship via ground. This response surprised me, as I assumed it made sense...

Pride Reserve Claret and Sour Beer (Aged and Large Format RRBC)

Prices are OBO, really looking to thin some of the more acidic stuff from the cellar and have a Pride BDX blend that isn't my style. All the sour beers are cellared from purchase which is pretty rare to find I believe; if you like sours and have never had them 5+ years old you are in for a treat. Ru...

Will take a bottle at release price + shipping if anyone wants to share. just want to see what the hype is about, without paying Krug prices :D
For your reference that's about $100+shipping you are offering, (bottle price for this release is about 100 with tax and shipping to buyer factored in).

Re: Favorite mid-price lodging Napa/Sonoma

Please try to use a permitted B&B rather than VRBO/airbnb if at all possible. The proliferation of these sites has had a big impact on the local rental market and is making it more and more difficult for harvest staff (and even full time) to find rentals, as the majority of homes listed are illegal ...

Re: Water quality agency claims vintner’s business improperly cleared Cloverdale land

Interesting, and yet this report leaves out so much. Two data points though - this combined with the Rhys penalty/reporting (very similar language and issues) indicate something. Noise? Coincidence? Or does this reflect energetic new leadership at the water board(s) in CA. Trying to make names for ...

Also this looks to be bigger much in scale than what Rhys did, apart from the illegal storage of water there were no rights to.

Now we can argue whether or not Rhys actually was treated differently than KJ (or Foley) would have been in the same situation.

The whole Michael Cruse line-up is incredibly solid. The Cruse petnats are lovely and makes for great summer sippers or aperitifs, winos and non winos alike love em. Even the still reds and chardonnay from his Cruse label punch way about their price point. The Carignane is straight Christmas ham an...

Very interesting read. Andy Steinman wrote: The Cannabis market is already in crisis because of oversupply. It really doesn't make sense to grow Cannabis on high value land as it can grow almost anywhere. Why would a rational grower use $20,000/acre vineyard suitable land when they could do the some...

I have yet to see proof that the aromatics make it into a finished wine. Has anyone seen evidence of this?

I completely understand not wanting to have a large grow next to a tour site or tasting room, but I'm not sure there is much that can be done once a precedent is set.
