Re: Do you always taste before you buy?

It’s a tricky question. I’ve tasted before buying and bought before tasting, it always varies. Highly sought after wines that have little allocation (Carter OG for example) are always purchased without tasting. Secondary market and wine shops I try and taste before buying unless I am familiar with t...

Rajesh, Do you have a budget in mind for this project? If you are trying to find the path of least resistance and have easy access to two of the walls without having to remove racking, installing batt insulation would be adequate and provide enough R-Value to meet recommended specs for in wall chil...

Yea, my moisture has been fine in the room before I did this when it was cinder block and now that it is finished months later. Relative humidity was over 50% before I added the water to the room and after it bumps it up to the 70's. I have a aprilaire permanent dehumidifier in my basement for purp...

Ben, Had some questions. Were you expecting to purchase something and have it shipped or find it locally? If locally, what are some vendors you would use in terms of available inventory. As an aside, the bevan is quite delicious, it is rich dense and darker profiled cab, but quite delicious none the...

Schramsberg, palmaz (state of the art facility), Barnett on spring mountain if you like great views, round pond also does a nice job as others mentioned. Alpha Omega does a nice job but you could also stop by without a reservation if you want to hang out and try a few wines.

Re: Let's talk wine club/mailing list structures.

Adam, I, as others, am not a member of any clubs for a number of reasons. Mainly I do not like the economics of it, having set fees/structures minimum purchases etc. My general predicament with wine and why I avoid clubs or any winery that forces you in to minimum purchase, is that my want/wish list...

I live near the original Gary’s, so hoping this move to Napa further increases what I can get my hands on without having to fly coast to coast. Seems like a good plan for Gary, spend more time in Napa without retiring. Not to mention a plethora opportunity being directly in the valley. Congrats

In for 3 LPV, trying to cut back as others are. Thinking I might pass on the upcoming Myriad offer. Already grabbed some Dr. Crane/GIII earlier in the year. Steltzner seems compelling though, so might be a game time decision.

Re: 2017 Carter Cellars Offering

I agree that it is worth paying attention to a downward trend in scores/reviews on CellarTracker, but I wonder if the negativity given to the 2017 vintage as a whole is playing any role in why they are coming out lower. While the 2017 vintage might not live up to its older brother, I’m sure it will ...

Regarding Heart to Heart and Vinum. In terms of glass shape, they are fairly similar. However, the Heart to Heart are thicker crystal compared to Vinum, which is more elegant feeling in the hand. I believe the heart to heart is their lead free crystal. If you have ever handled other lead free crysta...

I've had both the 16 Myriad and Quivet Napa blends over the past week. They were just delivered so bottle shock could always be an influence here. With that said, the Myriad performed a bit better/more accessible with an hour+ decant, although obviously still very young. I tasted the Quivet at Pnp a...

John, yes, the entire cellar is only cinder block, so no formal insulation outside of the foundation. I think it also depends on what you are looking for. The inexpensive vintage Cavas I have found tend to have a bit more going on flavor wise than some of the NV cremant juice out there. Where typically, the cremants I have consumed tend to be a bit cleaner and crisper, which has its merits as well. ...

Partially related, but the Carter LPV Verdad sold out within a matter of 12 hours or less. Looked like there were around 300 bottles of Quivet LPV in 2015 logged on CT when it was released. I grabbed 6 of the NV and 3 of the LPV. I wanted to purchase the Pellet and Ken but could not due to budgetary restrictions. Figured the NV had components of both single vineyards, so it would be a better value for the $$. Hope it was a wise decision and looking forward to trying them.
