Agree with John. Its all about knowing your prices. Auctions are probably good for rare and one off bottles. Retailers usually have better deals.

I enjoyed a 2016 Montevertine last weekend. While not Barolo it could pass for one. Exceptional nose of cherry and florals. Tannin's were on the softer side with a nice bit of acidity. Loved it.

That is a very good price Chris. Not that far off what wholesale is here, and we get a measly single bottle allocated. You guys tend to "whine like a Chevy diff" about pricing without realising how lucky you are! Us, complain? No, never. I thought that was a really good price as well. Now...

I always think about going the Grand Cru route because I think it has to be better. Then I find 1er or less that are just as good per WK and I just stay the path. Just can't seem to pull the trigger over $100 for white.

My experience with this was completely opposite. I paid $60 a few years back and was not happy with this. I think because of the producer I guess I just had higher hopes or maybe his style is just not for me. There was a prior thread on this exact wine and a contingent that agreed with me. This is t...

I did get a good chuckle on a price listed for one of the wines. 2017 Burlotto Monvigliero was listed at $80. FFIW I don't ever use the prices he lists as a benchmark. But that stood out.
Also, glad to hear the vintage is good.

I would say that the insider choice here, which hasn't even been mentioned, would be Jean-Claude Bachelet et Fils. Great viticulture, serious winemaking with two winters on the lees. I think part of the issue with the rise in price is the rumor that Boisson is best friends with Coche. Which then generates a perception that the wines could be similar. So its Coche but cheaper but not really.
