It'd be $300-$400 in Canada thanks to 100% government mark-ups.

Re: Santa Barbara Area Food & Wine

Funk Zone Patio is fun for lunch if you're wine tasting...

If staying in SB, then Oku and Flor the Maiz depending on your mood (sushi vs. modern mexican). They are side by side. Otherwise try Honor Bar or Bettina in Montecito

The Lark, Loquita or Toma for dinner.

Us Canadians have been dealing with ~100% government taxes on alcohol for decades.... :(

Re: Santa Barbara/Buellton/Solvang area wineries to visit

Spent a day in Los Olivios, and been tasting my way through the SB wineries for the past few weeks. In Los Olivios, the theme of the day was "cellar temp" red wine, which made tasting somewhat difficult. We went to 7 tasting rooms, and I think all but 1 were serving red at 55 or 60F... ugh. Samsara ...

This is one of my fav NV champagnes... The increased the price a bit over the last few years, but more than made up for it with improving quality.

Virtually every Washington State producer: Hedges, Mark Ryan, L'Ecole 41, etc.

Aside from Cayuse, Quilceda Creek and Leonetti, not many WA wines are discussed here.

Mt. Brave Cabernet & Louis Martini Monte Rosso Cabernet.
+1 on these and the Bevan Ontageny. Rivers Marie Cab at $65 is also terrific value, just had the 2015.

Re: Some British Columbia Wineries

The best Canadian wine I’ve tried is the Black Hills Nota Bene, a claret from Okanagan. I’d be quite interested to try some of their other wines. The Wild Goose Riesling Stony Slope was pretty good. 100% agree... got a case of the 2014 as a gift, and down to my last two bottles. Would be a fun one ...

Re: Healdsburg winery and restaurant recommendations

Ate at Valette two nights in a row on a visit a few weeks ago, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Our SingleThread experience on the other hand wasn't as amazing as some others have described here... a couple of the dishes were so-so and went back to the kitchen unfinished, and while serv...

Re: Restaurant Recommendations

Just came back from NYC: Nomad, Atera, Marea, Batard and Casa Mono. All fantastic. Atera is three star worthy....Casa Mono was a surprise find for spanish tapas (1 star). Batard does a fantastic Quail. All places had great wine lists. Pastis also just re-opened and we popped in for a quick lunch. So...

Re: What is YOUR most recent wine purchase?

2015 La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain.

Mispriced at $90.99 CAD (about $70 USD) in Vancouver, Canada. In a province with 100%+ alcohol tax, this is a bargain.

Another vote for Kits Wine Cellar.

BC Liquor stores tend to have very scant Cali/Oregon Pinot selections... I find EverythingWine to be overpriced, but so is all wine in BC thanks to taxes.

Re: Canadian wine retail stores

There's only 30 locations in the entire province...

I'd much rather see movement on the 2-bottle import limit and the taxation. Lining up at 6AM to buy 1-bottle allotment of 2015 BDX at 2x US retail pricing is ridiculous.

Re: Lisbon/Porto/Douro Visit Recommendations - November Visit

Went last November. In Porto-- 1. take it easy. First night out in Porto, barely remember how we got back to hotel. This is not like Napa. Easy to forget how high the ABV is. 2. Take a tour at Cockburn's... we had the entire place to ourselves. Only place that has its own coopers in house for barrel...

1983 Birth Year Wines

Good topic for my first post. I've been buying and drinking '83's as my birth year wine for almost a decade (started in my early 20's). Bordeaux: Moulin Des Carruades (2nd wine of Lafite, under previous name) is fantastic and available for around $200. Also enjoyed the 1983 Gruaud Larose. A bottle o...
