Matthiasson is another great suggestion! I attended their member pickup party once as a +1 and was impressed by the wines and the vineyards. Thanks for reminding me, it was a great visit!

Re: Old School Napa Valley Tasting Suggestions

You obviously have a lot of definitive opinions about what Napa Cabs you like and do not like. Pick your favorite wineries and try to get in there. The best winey visits in my experience have been at the wineries whose wines I like best. Nothing like seeing how and where your favorite wines get mad...

Thanks so much for all the suggestions so far! This is great :) A couple of comments: - I have a lot of experience with Clos du Val and Pine Ridge (due to a family member having memberships) and neither have ever really wowed me, maybe except for the 2013 Fortis, which was very good. - Heitz is no l...

Old School Napa Valley Tasting Suggestions

I'm sure there must be plenty of threads, but I haven't really found what I'm looking for, so please excuse me asking again... I'm planning a tasting trip to Napa with my parents, who are visiting from Europe at the beginning of August. I'm looking for suggestions on wineries that make classic, old ...

Re: WTT: My 2009 for 2008 Lopez de Heredia Rosado Gran Reserva

Thanks, Pat, but the hype around the Gran Rosado has driven prices up to an insane level... I was hoping that someone who got the 08 at a reasonable price (just like I got my 09, I paid ~$36 per bottle) would be interested in a trade such that we can both experience this wine across the vintages but...

Re: Beaujolais: what back vintages are you drinking now?

I love 2013 and 2014 right now, don't have too much 09 and 10, but what I've had recently (mostly Foillard/Lapierre) was still fresh, delicious, and had years of life left.

I think 2016 is drinking quite well, but I'm keeping my hands off. Same with 2015, although I prefer 16 and 14...

not always a strong correlation between vineyard quality and producer quality, see Backus.
Because Backus is much better than anything Phelps is making or because Backus could be so much better if in someone else’s hands? [scratch.gif]
