Re: How long were you on the Monte Bello waiting list?

I was immediately offered purchase when I signed up in 2017, but I got no offer this year (because 2018 was a short vintage).

Thank you all for the great info on vintages and winemakers! I will try to find some with good provenance. They sometime show up on K&L (I had mostly positive experience with their auction department)

Older Mount Eden Cab Sav

Today I was browsing one on my old wine books (The Great Vintage Wine Book by Michael Broadbent) and in 1980 he wrote this note about a 1973 Mount Eden, Cabernet-Sauvignon: “The most astonishing wine (and price: £175 per dozen) at a recent London tasting: opaque; nose extremely rich; a huge dry wine...

Los Gatos is a little far for me, but this dinner seems too good to pass on... Count me in!
We could share an Uber/Lyft back to San Mateo/Burlingame if somebody goes in that direction.

Re: Santa Barbara/Buellton/Solvang area wineries to visit

Sanford in Sta. Rita Hills has a very nice tasting room, and I quite enjoy their wines. Since they have been acquired by Terlato, they lost some of their “status” in the wine world, but I think they make remarkable Pinots (in particular Vista al Rio and Dominio del Falcon are my ... but I think I am...

Re: Favorite ACTUAL pizza and wine pairings

I would typically go with beer, but if we drink wine it is often an approachable Chianti (Nipozzano Vecchie Viti is my go-to weekday Chianti, a great value).

In Milan you cannot miss Cantine Isola in Via Sarpi (https://www.cantineisola.com/it/contatti.html). The owners are great people: stop over there for an aperitivo in the evening and grab some wines to take with you. You will have a great time!

Help us discover Burgundy

I'm organizing a wine dinner with some wine-friends here in LA. We typically drink Italian wines (Piedmont-Nebbiolo and Tuscany-Sangiovese/Super-Tuscan), California (mostly PN) and Champagne. This time we want to explore Burgundy. Can you suggest 6-8 wines with good QPR, available on the market and ...

What do you think of Sanford?

What is your opinion of the modern Sanford wines? (post-Terlato acquisition) I haven't found many discussions about their wines on the board. I haven't had the fortune to taste any of the older wines - so I cannot make a comparison, but I have been on their mailing list for a few years, and I find t...

You should start from the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo e Barbaresco (www.langhevini.it). Despite the name, the organization does not only include Barolo and Barbaresco producers, but also Langhe Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera and so on.
