Florence is wonderful. Lots of tourists including my wife and me. So much to see. David and the Duomo are worth it alone. Get an apartment with a terrace. I stopped by the DC costco off rte 50 for a little recon. They had Roederer Estate Brut for $26. I did not see the L'Ermitage. They had a couple deals on cabs including the 2013 Beringer Knights Valley Reserve for $47, about 11 below wine-searcher (WS) average. They also had 2013 Alain Jaume & Fils ...

Schneider's has a lot of their older wines in their warehouse but they are listed online. If you buy online, you can pick it up the next day. I usually stop there on my way to the DC tastings.

Re: Official Costco Thread

Let me first say that I love Costco. I've been shopping there for 15 years, first in PA, now in MD. Drove up to Philly yesterday and stopped in at the Costco in Delaware off I95. Major disappointment. Pretty weak selection. No tempranillo, only 1 burgundy (Jadot not even village level) and no bordea...

Why do wine bars fail?

Mitch,
You hit the nail on the head. I'm never happy paying more than retail for wine. I've been to wine bars and I either have to pay ridiculous prices or drink lousy wine that I would never purchase by the bottle. A good chef can do things I can't, a wine bar can't add much to that glass.
