Horizontal storage makes it easier to access any bottle at any time, so that part is better for relatively small/home collections.

That wouldn’t matter as much for large #s of the same bottle, so vertical may be better in this case if the theories mentioned by OP are true.

As someone who does not in the slightest bit subscribe to the mythology of travel shock, I would say stand the bottle up for a few hours, maybe a day or two, and go at it. Grabbed 1 btl each of a merlot, zin, cab and Bordeaux blend and also wishlisted an 87 SC zin. Had no clue what i was doing but figured it’d be fun to try a variety of aged wines at great prices with the best provenance.

The website now says “98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.5% Cabernet Franc, .5% Mixed Varietals”. Maybe they copied the blend from a Prisoner wine and forgot to update that too...? How is La Tavola? I’m always looking for new italian restaurants.

I love Piccolo Forno. Alla Familigia is good, but way overpriced.

There is a small italian place on Painters Run road in the south hills called Claudio’s. No corkage and good food. Prices are low but cash only.

Hall Eighteen Seventy Three vineyard is a great cab at $75 via wine.com. One of the few instances where wine.com has the best price. I had a 2016 W&M cab in February and Will’s advice was “pull the cork on it, maybe sample an oz or so, then let it sit at cellar temp for a few hours. When you get to the restaurant, throw it into a decanter or if they have good Cab stems, just pour some glasses and let it breathe at an arms length....

I’m passing on the Lutums. Without having tried it before I cannot buy through the entire lineup. Plus if I try one and like it, the winery is closed and I’d have to source past vintages at full price, knowing I could have had much better deals. The anguish!
