Re: Week 2 Virtual Tasting Series for Charity - Oregon Wines for Dakin Humane Society (12/4 - 12/11)

2018 Van Duzer Pinot Gris Estate Willamette Valley Straw colored, below medium legs. Aromas of white flowers and lighter fruit: grapefruit, green apple, faint lychee, apple blossom. On the palate, this is a very tart wine; just acid and fruit. Unlike some Pinot Gris that lean toward cream/honey simi...

Vigna Dorata NV Rose', Franciacorta DOCG. This Franciacorta is made from Pinot Noir grapes. Disclosure: I am a big fan of Italian wines, and have found great Italian wine values. Literally pink rose-colored, plenty of tiny bubbles. Definite red berry, cherry aromas with hints of yeast and dust. On t...

Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir, 2009, Los Alamos Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley Crimson fading to ruby, excellent clarity. Aromas are slightly red fruit dominant: cranberry, cherry/sour cherry prominent, definite dust and vanilla. On Day 2, clove and cinnamon joined the aromas. On the palate, sour cherry up...

Fess Parker, Pinot Noir 2010, Sta. Rita Hills: Garnet, fading to rose on the rim. Very good clarity. Aromas are red fruit & wood-dominant. Light toast, maybe some cedar. On the palate, red fruit joined by mushroom and nutmeg. Definite PN-like acidity. Complex due to a slowly fading finish. May be at...

Re: Virtual Tasting for Charity - Empty My Wallet, Help Me Support Laura's House (11/22 - 12/1)

Tablas Creek Full Circle Pinot Noir, 2016, Templeton Gap District, Paso Robles. It seems that one of the founders is, like so many, fascinated by Burgundy. This is not a typical grape for Paso; however, my first impression is that the wine is a classic, elegant, varietally correct expression of the ...

Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard, Pinot Noir, 2014, Bailey's Branciforte Ridge, Santa Cruz Mountains. A recent interest is the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, particularly for Syrah. (Big Basin, Falltacular, enough said). I was glad to track down a PN from the same AVA. Aromas are primarily strawberry, with a...

Detente Wines, Margot Pinot Noir, 2018, Stolo Vineyard, San Luis Obispo County. Pale red, little rim variation (wouldn't expect much in a young wine). Subtle red fruit aromas. On the palate, the red fruit narrows to cherry and a bit of strawberry; just a bit of pepper, earthiness. This wine will be ...

Re: Virtual Tasting for Charity - Empty My Wallet, Help Me Support Laura's House (11/22 - 12/1)

I hope this wine qualifies, as it is a Pinot Nero-dominant blend: Ferrari NV Brut Rose', Trentodoc DOC. This wine is made from Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) and Chardonnay grapes. Copper with hints of pink. Bubbles are there, but not as tiny as those I've seen in Champagne and in Franciacorta. Fruit-forwa...

Re: You’re being evacuated from your home, what wine do you grab?

Brian, thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. On topic kinda sorta, what are your ideas as to how to support wineries impacted by Kincade? I've received several e-mails from wineries that are supposedly donating proceeds to the cause. Hate to be cynical, but, are just trying to sell at an emot...

Re: Top US Syrahs

I, too, am a big fan of Delmore Syrah, and Pinot Noir for that matter. No one orders Syrah from a list? I remember years ago we were in a restaurant in Mendocino. Believe it was the Standford Inn. We were ordering for dinner and wanted just a glass each of red. The server asked if we liked Syrah. Su...

2010 Veleta Cabernet (Bodega Dominio Buenavista / Veleta Cabernet Sauvignon). Second of 2 bottles; first one was, ahem, nothing special. Prior CT notes were dated 2017; our first bottle was 2018 and seemed past its prime. Trying to be objective here, and the second bottle is different. Subtle aromas...

Re: Falltacular 2019--Saturday, 2/16/2019 @ My Place In The OC

Last year I brought cookies from a small biz in our town. They were a big hit, so may do that again. Like to support local and to bring something that folks in the OC area can't get there.

Our NYE will be considerably quieter than Falltacular. And that's OK with us. To all, Happy New Year!
