Re: The Garagiste Thread (The Great Enabler) Back to Life

Old Rancia is good Rancia. I don't have any 1995 left, though. My current oldest are '99s, except that I deliberately put aside my last bottle of the '90 to see how it would taste at 30. We'll find out at some point this year... We should compare notes. I also have a bottle of 1990 left that I plan...

Suggest you supplement with an inexpensive wine fridge for the really good, longer lived, stuff (assuming it's not all really good stuff). This is basically my set up in suburban MD. I did, haven't had it shipped out yet. The fact that Rimmerman does not mention the vintage in the offer leads me to believe it is a 2014, which was a middle of the road vintage for Barolo at best.

So, today's Tuscan Mystery. Would be a dead ringer for Felsina CC but then it says they've never offered this particular wine before. So it can't be Felsina CC. Not much to go on here other than that it probably has a 91 or 92 from V.

Cerbaiona does one of those weird declassified NVs.

"Previous renditions of the same name Brunello trade for well in excess of $100+" --> seems like a not so subtle clue that this isn't actually the Brunello.

Re: The Garagiste Thread (The Great Enabler) Back to Life

Rimmerman usually sprinkles enough data into the subsequent offers for you to know its a repeat. At least that's my opinion, with respect to the Fontalloro offer. I had suspected the first of the three offers was Fontalloro, and the second one dropped the exact critic scores as a hint. I recall the ...

Different strokes. I preferred the Produttori by a wide margin over the Vajra. Pretty sure it is the same one as I surmised might be 2015 Rancia a few weeks ago. The addition of the note that it "could be" one of AG's highest rated reds for 2015 comports with the "94-97" score AG gave 2015 Rancia earlier this year.

Consider adding Felsina CC riserva (not the Rancia) to the mix. Depending on where you are, it's in the $25-26 range. Then you can offer the tasters an opportunity to taste different styles/quality levels at one winemaker.

I think it's Rancia. Pricing for Rancia and Fontalloro look to be up for the 2015 vintage. Based on pricing at some of the bigger shops, I bet discount US for 2015 Rancia will be $45, Fontalloro $50, vs. $38 and $45 for 2013.
