Re: Recommendations Please for Petite Syrah

Retro is on my list to reach out to and see if they have some library releases that they are willing to part with. Retro has a 12 bottle vertical of the Howell Mountain PS on their website. Three bottles each of the 2010 through 2013. All are excellent. Yes, they would benefit from more cellar time...

Love the Sous Bois bottling from them. They age the wines in oak barrels and it gives off a nice vanilla note that resonates well with my palate.

Re: Vice Versa fall offering

VV is made in modern style, but Melka, in my opinion, never lets the extraction or oak treatment take center stage. I think he does a good job of straddling the line between expressing the purity of fruit without blowing it out. I am looking forward to buying some of the Napa blend, and while I can’...

Thanks Matt- I have a bunch of Dunn cabernet in the cellar, so I’m sure that style will be appealing. I’m assuming they will also need a bit of slumber as well? What’s the general drinking window from release? 3-5-++ years?

Recommendations Please for Petite Syrah

Hello Berserkers, So I feel like lately I am stuck in a rut- while my first love is a delicious Napa Cabernet, I have become a bit bored of her, and I feel like I need to branch out a little more and cheat on my #1 girlfriend. I have always enjoyed the PS varietal, but am admittedly a bit green on t...

I have been a buyer the past four vintages (sans 2017), and they always meet expectations. It’s nice to drink a TRB wine without the $150+ price tag. Jeb Dunnuck rated these wines and gave them all 94++ ratings.

If you like TRB, then you will like these wines.

As for finding it on secondary, I would rather pay the extra $5-10/ bottle, help them directly, pad my future allocation, and oh yeah get the free shipping. That right there makes it a better deal imo.

Wow, I’ve been drinking a lot of wine since March 17th (the day I got back from Jackson Hole and the world changed). May need to cut down... or drink more. For me, it was a 2016 Kinsman Rhadamanthus. I'd nominate Livio Sassetti's Pertimali as one of the better ones, especially if you consider price.
