Sounds like he was a phony trying to impress whoever. Who is a real wine person that brushes his teeth just prior to a tasting?

BTW... I do love Oregon Pinot's, and my 1994's from several producers are still going from strength to strength. As with a few other vintages from the 1990's.

As someone who has never had a drop of SQN, can I ask an unanswerable question? What makes these wines so magical? Like, what is the touch (or lack of touch) that the Krankl's have? Again, I realize that's somewhat impossible to quantify, but maybe someone can give it a shot so I can taste vicariou...

Fairchild GIII Offering sold out in 3 hours. Who else sells out that fast?

Got the release as well and an easy pass at $300. I'm sure it's a nice wine but way too many stellar options in this price range. Cali cabs have gotten completely out of hand and I have no regrets leaving this one, and many other high priced domestic trophies, in the rearview. To each their own and...

Wine estate buyers

Depends on the time frame, how quick do they want to move the wines. Maybe sell some outright, others at auction. As suggested, Ben at Cellaraiders is a good start. He's a buyer, not auction. Ben is not a high priced re-seller, he looks for fast turnover. As an example, he offers to buy 1988 Lynch B...

The myth of letting wines breathe

FWIW, Americas Test Kitchen decanted wine into a pitcher, then back-and-forth into another pitcher, about a dozen times or so, they said it made a big difference and the wine bloomed quickly owing to this. I'm sure they did not do this with something rare and aged, but it sounds interesting. I've be...

Optimal air time for Heitz 1974 Martha's and 1968 Pinot Chardonnay?

I wouldn't know what to say or recommend for that Chardonnay. Though opening it at home is what would be best, as it may not have much if anything to offer and you may choose to leave it at home. I have no experience with a California Chardonnay beyond 20 years old. As for the Cab, open it a few hou...

If they are adding wine, removing sediment, slapping labels on unlabeled bottles, I doubt that they would disclose that as the value of the product would drop like a rock.

Undisclosed Reconditioned Wine -- Scam or Normal Practice?

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a "scam," but an reconditioned bottle ought to be marked/labeled as such if the reconditioning involved removing/replacing the cork due to the risk of additional exposure to oxygen. And if any of the contents were altered--sediment removed, wine topped off, etc.-...

Undisclosed Reconditioned Wine -- Scam or Normal Practice?

Are you claiming that they have unlabeled bottles in their cellars, only to slap a label on it years later? If so, then the vintage would be suspect and I would not trust such a practice with 10¢ of my money.
