https://i.postimg.cc/3whgYyfK/Patricia-Green-Volcanic.jpg Berserker-Day purchase, showing well. Generous black cherry, with hints of cocoa, leather, and cigar ash. Acids and tannins are in perfect balance....well made. Drink now. One of my favorites! What’s in those canning jars in the pic?

Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?

1999 Dom. de la Mordoree CdP Reine Bois. A bit past prime but a nice mouthful. I have another bottle in cellar and I’ll make a note to consume soon. Had it with flank steak and went quite well with it. Keeps reinforcing that I need to drink CdP sooner.

I went 2017 Chablis shopping yesterday. Picked up Fevre’s Bougros Cotes Bougeurots and Les Clos and Michel’s Vaillons at Calvert Woodleys and then hopped over to Weygant and bought the Servin’s Foret and Vaillons.

Love these wines. On their mailing list. Favorite of mine but I think I drink them way too young. Any experience with older bottlings?

Re: Why is the level of fervor is uneven: old world versus new world palates...

Insignia is an excellent example for this discussion. It changed in the early 1990s from a great and interesting wine, to a modern Napa wine, which I disliked intensely. We haven’t changed, the wines did. Sounds like I need to get to taste some +25-yo Insignia then. I guess easier said than done. I...

Re: The anomaly that is Chateau Palmer.

I've had the '83 and '89 Palmers and both were wonderful. But, I purchased them when they came out so the price wasn't an issue then. Now, you're right, the price is definitely up there and I haven't purchased it since because of that.

Re: How did your tastes in wine change?

Started with Bordeaux (red and sweet), then switched to big cal cabs and Aussie Shiraz. Then switched to Rhône. Doing more whites now, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Always have bought and drank German and Alsatian wines, lately into the GGs. Also tried a lot of Oregon and Cal Pinots the last few y...

Re: TN: 1982 Bordeaux Tasting

Nice notes! I only have a few 82's left (including Mouton and Latour) so nice to see notes on them. I did open a magnum of 82 Sociando Mallet recently - that was a surprise! And planning to open the 82 Leoville Barton this Saturday. What a wonderful vintage!

Looking for a Wine Tasting group

My old group from D.C. doesn’t get Together anymore. Looking for another that doesn’t drink swill in the Montgomery County MD area! I like Bordeaux, Cal Cabs and Chards, German, Oregon Pinot and Italian.

I’ve been opening a lot of my 98 ChP lately because I’ve had so many that are over the hill. Right now I’m drinking the Ch Cabrieres Prestige which is one of the better bottles I’ve opened. Jammy, nice balance, a bit of the dirt, long finish and lots and lots of fruit. So many were just tired and ol...

Wine Books - Must Haves

I know it is dated but it introduced me to the world of wine. I loved reading Alexis Lichine’s Wine of France. I bought when I was in college (60 now). It definitely taught me so much about wine, more than just ratings.
