What Trader Joe's Wine Are You Drinking?

It's always worth a walk through at least but I rarely buy anything. There is the occasional score that makes it worth it though.

Remember the '06 Lance and Windmill PS that was really a Quixote @ $10.

It's probably fine. Buy a bottle and check it out. If it's over the hill return it

Bought wine just because it seemed like a good deal?

I'm typically a close out shopper. So I probably am coming from a different perspective than most. Most of what I buy isn't for cellaring since I have about 100 bottles max storage at the moment. I also don't buy much imported since I don't know enough to be able to discern value on French, Italian ...

I just stab it with one of the prongs of the ahso I'm about to use and then rotate at a low angle to slice the top.

BevMo Accused of Bait and Switch

My negative experience with bevmo and this practice is mostly centered on white wine. They have repeatedly subbed in much older bottles on whites that are best fresh. When I get to the store I flat out refuse to accept it and ask for a refund. Can you explain how this comes up? I don't quite follow...

Which Champagne are you drinking?

Not champagne but my bride and I have been working through a bit of iron horse this last year. I really love their Russian cuvee.

In the last year I've enjoyed all these.

Vintage brut
Brut x
Winter cuvee
Russian cuvee
Brut rose
Ocean reserve

All have been excellent.

What Santa Barbara County/South Coast Wine Are You Drinking?

Was in Santa Barbara today and checked out Municipal Winemakers and Area 5.1. They are right across from each other. I read, I think here, some reasonable reviews on Municipal so that was my initial interest. Across the board both wineries need a kick in the pants. I found their offerings marginal ...

I use the 375's. I have 5 screw tops sitting on my bar. My wife even glass etched a couple with "drink up" & "Leftovers". They look nice on the bar and serve a purpose. Just reuse over and over and make sure to wash out with hot water and drip dry. With younger wines i don't even put them in the fri...

When a Wine is Cheaper At Retail, Where Do You Buy?

I don't belong to any clubs because I simply can't afford it. So I bargain shop pretty heavily. But I've been a part of 2 different clubs in the past, 1 was a trendy Santa Barbara based winery that kept slowly pushing prices up and over time found the QPR wasn't there. The other is a winery that I st...

What's the average bottle price? If it's relatively cheap and you are consuming it as quickly as you say, they should be fine in cupboard or closet.

375s

I reuse them especially if screw topped to store the balance of a 750 after I've had a couple glasses. Wine holds really well if you fill them all the way up.

From what I've heard the number one Costco for wine by volume is the palm desert, CA store. Having visited multiple times over the last 5 years I can tell you it has double or triple inventory of my local store.

What is YOUR most recent wine purchase?

This last week,
Campesino Rhone single vineyard 6 pack, some of which is sold off and some traded. But ended up with 1 Syrah and 2 Grenache.
Traded 1 Syrah for a Loring RRV PN with Kyle.

And then also picked up an '08 Iron Horse brut rose from Kyle.
