Asimov on wine and critics

excellent article

"choosing craft over commerce" pretty much drives most of my activity, but many friends just don't understand or "get" that line of thinking. give them a Silver Oak and they are impressed. give them a 125 case production Howell Mtn cab and they just nod politely.

Not the worst list I have ever seen until you go to the right side of the page. The pricing is gouging. Some of the markups are 4 times. Rarely see that. To me, I wouldn't even go there. Not a fan of Ruth Chris anyhow and with such a poor wine list, it would be difficult. The only decent deals I sa...

They are already able to ship within the state, per my understanding (is that wrong)? That is not quite accurate. Certain types of retail licenses (I believe it's Q - Package Store Permit (Wine Only)) allow shipping within certain distance from the licensee's address or county. Pogo's in Dallas is ...

Craig, No, the bill does not allow Texas retailers to purchase directly from producers in any way beyond what they may currently do. The bill relates only to direct shipment to consumers. However, Spec's and Sigels would, under the bill, be able under the bill to ship direct to consumers throughout...

Red Burgs and cheese -- your recs

I think the second part is backward. I much prefer a rich, creamy soft cheese with a red (generally rhone is preferred but pinot will do) and harder cheeses with a white.

One practical suggestion I've heard and sometimes tried is the "cooling off period." When you see an offer or something at retail or auction you want, set it aside and come back to it in a few days. You will sometimes have come down off your rush of enthusiasm and realize you don't need it. Or some...
