Re: What's you favorite Vegetarian-qualifying food?

On our veg days I often make Indian red lentil curry with cauliflower. finish with coriander, yoghurt and lime and serve with Indian Naan bread.. One of those dishes where meat is absolutely not missed ;-)

Pair with riesling.

My first thought was also Albarinho but a good quality Rueda (verdejo grape) will also work i think

Bordeaux 2014 vintage release tasting, Noo Yawk

Good to read all your reports!

How would you guys rate the '14 vintage in line with the last 20 years? I know it can not match years like '9 and '10 but how much is it up compared to other (weaker) vintages?

Gigondas 2014

Great picture John with that contract between the vines and the more darker background. I love the town during summer, not too big and has a cosy feel to it (and some good restaurants). How is visiting the region during winter? The lack of richness in '14 is not a biggie for me as I like the more el...

Gigondas 2014

Thinking about buying some 2014 Saint Damien Gigondas and tried to find more about the vintage but the info is limited. I did find that this vintage in Chateauneuf du Pape is not seen as one of the best and as Gigondas is not far away I was wondering if that also accounts? will this wine be cellerab...

Now that's a catalog

That is pretty old skool to send out such a work. Don't think this automatically will mean the end of this seller cause I think in general the 'wine buyer' is a bit older, more conservative and values such traditional ways of commmunication. I still recieve physical mailings from several shops and a...

TN: 2005 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 (Rioja)

Also guilty for point and status chasing pileon and was sensitive for the #1 position of Wine Enthusiast in combination with a good deal (28 euros) mailed to me..... Normally like Rioja but do not have a lot of experience with them. Could the 904 be discribed as 'old skool' or a more modern approach...

What bottle of wine did you open today?

2008 Schild Estate. Not my kind a palate anymore, way too jammy and sweet, almost a fortified wine. Too bad, CT says I liked it 3 years ago or is the wine over the hill?

Pinot Noir/Food Pairing

Once had an epic combo of in butter baked smoked eal, green apple and rosemary with a german Pinot.

I further agree on the mushrooms and other food that has an earthy taste to it. Also cold meats do well with pinot.

Good, cheap Pinot suggestions

Don't know how widely available this stuff is in the US but i find always great value in German Pinots (Spatburgunder as they call it) from the Pfalz region. Good producers are amongst others Reichsrat von Buhl, Philip Kuhn and Knipser. Not so polished as Burgundy but often have a nice earthyness to...

Wine Bar Best and Worst Practices

Had dinner at a wine bar last friday and the main thing that was irritated me was the lack of knowledge among the staff. The waitress barely managed to share that her suggested wine was a Primitivo from Italy, and she admitted that her knowledge ended there. So make sure your staff knows what they a...

For me it is 2014 Willi Schaefer Graacher Riesling trocken at 9 Euros per bottle. Great fresh and exhilarating basic Riesling which is delicious now and can age a few years if you prefer the secondary state on you Rieslings.

TN: 2005 Joguet Les Varennes du Grand Clos Chinon [plus links to Joguet notes from 2015]

I have the privilege to live within driving distance and visited the estate back in September. Nice tasting setting in an old cave-like cellar. I think they work completely bio dynamic and find their wines really pure and quite dense for Loire cab franc. At the moment we where there they were only r...

Hit me with Spanish Red values

Bodegas Luis Cañas Rioja Reserva Selección de Familia - modern and fresher style Rioja. Prices around here in the Netherlands are about 13/14 euro's. Tasted the 2009 last week and it is great!

Xmas wines?

On Christmas eve 17 friends are coming over and everybody brings a course and accompanying wine. That is a surprise every year ;-) We do the main course and are making asian inspired slowly cooked duck legs with 5 spice, star anise, ginger and sweet potatoe puree with thai basil and spring onion. No...

Produttori del Barbaresco intel? Give me the rub.

Totally inspired by this thread I just bought 6 bottles of 2009, 3 bottles of the 2007 and 3 bottles of the 2009 Ovello! Normal ones costed around 20 euros and the ovello 29.

Fairly new to Nebbiolo so really curious to try!
