Re: The time has come the walrus said...drinking in the time of COVID-19

I did a similar thing with my sole bottle of Marcassin pinot (2003 Sonoma Coast) at the end of March. I was a little worried it might be too late but, at the same time, I couldn't find a special enough occasion to open it. But given the current circumstances, I just decided to open it up with a nice...

The 30 bottle mini wine fridge near the kitchen is a good place to store chocolate.

Doing Manresa take-out tomorrow evening. The sommelier suggested bottle pairing with dinner was $45 so we added that on. Won't know the bottle until we pick up tomorrow...

I also opened a bottle a few days ago and, wow, what a nice bottle of wine! No formal tasting note, but I'm very happy I have 4 left!

Re: What BEER are you drinking?

Found the Kern River Citra DIPA in a can at the local store. Still solid, but I don't think it was as amazing as the Kern River Citra of 7-10 years ago.

Also the MT Mega Space Ways (DIPA) and Accumulated Knowledge...and a bunch of solid NE style IPA's from Revision Brewery.

2014 SQN Shakti Grenache. PNP. Paired perfectly with the rainy day and the deep colors of the Christmas lights as we set up the tree :)

For 15.9% abv, it's incredibly balanced from my perspective.

Yup, recognized the Campy corkscrew. I've got one too. Not as practical as the simple waiter's corkscrew, but it looks awesome!

Re: Planning your visit to Sonoma "County"? This might help.

I'll be spending the last week of March up in Healdsburg and have only 1 tasting reservation at A. Rafanelli on Saturday. But I'd really like to visit a winery that has some solid white wines. Any suggestions for a winery either near Rafanelli, or near Healdsburg that has some solid whites? Thanks! ...

Re: Merry Edwards sold

At one time, Merry Edwards was right up there with the other top names in Calif pinot during the height of the pinot-bubble. Screw that - this woman produced some of the greatest Chardonnays in California history - the only reason she turned to Pinot Noir was because she couldn't sell her Chardonna...

I really liked Ise Sueyoshi in Tokyo: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g14129744-d8261420-Reviews-Ise_Sueyoshi-Nishiazabu_Minato_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html It's walking distance from the Grand Hyatt and the Chef spent a few years in Canada so he speaks English. I'd definitely rec...

Recommendation for a trip to Siena in late February

I am spending two weeks in Italy with a bunch of friends. We'll spend a few days in Rome (where we fly in to and out of), but the majority of the time will be spent at a villa in Siena. Everyone will have bicycles and will do some riding each day, but I'm the one who is most interested in wine. Are ...

Fire Burning Toward Mt Eden Vineyards

Yikes. I can never understand why there aren't 20 planes dropping retardant and water to snuff these kinds of fires out right away. I read that high tension power lines in the area were limiting their ability to drop retardant. I've got tickets to 2cellos at the mountain winery on Thursday night. I...
