Re: TN: 2007 Château d'Yquem (First timer)

I will never forget my first experience with Yquem. I was attending my first wine dinner with a national wine tasting group in Washington, DC. I cannot remember exactly but it was a 5-6 course meal with different wines for each course. When it came time for dessert a '49 Yquem was served. It was dar...

The Best California Chardonnay That You've Had In The Last 5 Years?

In the last 5 years I have started to drink some of my Peter Michael chardonnays. Most Memorable '96 la Carriere with crab cakes in Annapolis, MD Recent '12 Belle Cote, and '13 Mon Plaisir My son always questions me why we don't drink more of my PM. I find with an addition 3+ years in the bottle the...

Ever have bad Champagne ??

I find "BAD" and interesting word. I really love Champagne and have had many different bottling for a number of different makers. I recently attended a Champagne tasting where we were served a Bollinger Grande Année. This wine was so different from what I was used to drinking I thought it bordered o...

Sorry, but you didn't buy that corked bottle from us!

My, how times have changed. On my first trip to wine country, back in the mid 70's I went to, what was then some boutique wineries. I bought a bunch of wine that just was not available in the Washington DC area. One visit was to Mayacamas Vineyards. While there I was told that they had recently done...

When Was the Last Time You Did an Inventory?

I try to inventory my wines a couple of times of year. I am coming upon that time really soon. The limiting factor is deliveries from wineries I order from. In my perfect world they would all schedule deliveries within a week or two. The way they do it now it's spread out over 2 months and it drives...

Zalto disappointment

For more than a couple of years I have been looking for the right champagne glass. In reading here and other wine blogs saw that Zalto Universal glasses were gaining in popularity when serving Champagne. During this years Berserker I pulled the trigger and ordered them. For the first time use my son...

Big Bold Napa Cab Recommendations

Here in florida we have some really good wine rep's that bring in some really choice wines. I would like to add to the list
THE DEBATE, Cabernet Sauvignon. Wines were from Missouri Hopper, To Kalon, and Dr. Crane. Wines varied from moderately big to gigantic (re:BOLD)

Who do you trust (Flawed Poll Redux)

On a somewhat limited basis the tasting notes from the PRINCE of PINOT, (Rusty) are pretty close to my tastes for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He also is limited to mostly west coast wines but that fits well with my wine habits.

California Pinot Noir Drinking Windows?

A few months back, before my visit to the Russian River and Anderson Valley, I wanted to see how one of my old bottles of Merry Edwards would stand up. I took a 2005 Tobias Glen and found a wonderful nose, a very smooth mouth feel and still a surprising amount of fruit in the glass. It was a very in...

Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival- May 19-21

I attended the Pinot Festival and it was great. It seemed like every day I tasted wines that were better than the day before. I started the festival Friday Night at The Bewildered Pig. An outstanding meal, prepared by Jannelle, and wines from Black Kite Cellars. We had an outstanding 2014 Gap's Crow...

Wine - it is a family thing

My oldest son and I have enjoyed many bottles of wine together. His mother and I would have wine all the time when he was growing up and would occasionally ask for a taste. As he grew older he appreciated wine more and more. He even got me over my near phobia of drinking Merlot. I cannot remember wh...

Please Make it Stop . . . .

I have tried the Mondavi Bourbon Barrel Cabernet and I throughly enjoyed it. Getting past the somewhat unusual nose the flavor was there. Considering that it was less than $15 I would pour it for friends when the burgers were coming off the grill.

I read about this festival last year and have been chopping a the bit to go. I now have my air, hotel reservations, tickets to 2 dinners Friday and Saturday evening, tickets for the Grand Tasting, and finally the open house on Sunday. I am now trying to find out if Uber is available to to and from t...

Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival

I have become fascinated with wines from Anderson Valley, especially Pinot Noir. Seeing many vineyards touting the specific clones they are making their wine from seems really interesting. I see that in mid-May the Wine Growers Association is having a pinot noir festival where 50 some wineries (last...

We made it a celebration with Krug Grande Cuvee. champagne.gif My son was visiting before his departure, for 2 years, to the Land of the Rising Sun (Japan). Have you ever gone out and purchased every available bottle of a wine?

In the early '80 I attended a wine tasting at Catholic University, in Washington, DC. A gentleman from California brought 3 nights worth of wine for about 25 people to taste. On the final night he poured a 77 Phelps Gewürztraminer. From my past tasting experience I was told that you will either love...

What's the wine that changed your life?

In the early 70's I was working part time in a wine shop that my best friend from high school owned with his family. One day he told me to give him $150, he had some wine I JUST HAD TO PURCHASE. Back in those days that was nearly a weeks salary for me but I did it anyway. I received 4 bottles of a w...

Merry Edwards, Far and away the best.
I really dislike all the NZ SB, they taste of steel or worse, grass. Save that for the NZ sheep.
We are drinking Merry Edwards tonight with Padigonain Tooth Fish. Should be special.

Scandalous!

My wish is that wineries would keep to a uniform size bottle so ALL wine coolers would be able to accommodate them. Some wineries that have fatter bottles or taller bottles need to have more too in my cellar and it is sometime annoying when there is limited space in a 100 bottle cooler.
