2009 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

I am not at all an Italian wine expert and I don't have a ton of experience aging Barolos and Barbarescos. Historically I have been more into French wine but that has changed over the last half dozen years. This was purchased on release and stored 55 deg. Starting to brick around the edges (almost o...

Re: SQN Questions

I joined the list in 2005. My experience has been that they improve dramatically with age. I had a few of the 2005 recently that were just incredible. I do not like them as much young but many others do. I would say 5-8 years of bottle age is optimal from my perspective. Good luck.

Re: 'Cork Dork', a quick review

I read it earlier this year and did not love it. Aside from the pretentiousness that is pervasive, it made me sad. Wine is so fun to explore but like everything else, it can be taken to extremes.

It is all personal preference. I happen to like Bordeaux with some bottle age. Some people do not. There is no right or wrong here.

Re: Are any of the wines listed below open for business?

Not had any of these recently, but I'd guess: 2009 Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco I would guess that the best bets are: 2009 Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco (probably the safest one among the Barolos; soft, more forward vintage and a modernist producer) This is what I was going to suggest also. Why ...

Being a longtime WA subscriber I am sad to see the current state of affairs. The Us market has become an after thought. IMHO Vinous has put together a much stronger stable of critics. They are also much more conscious of their customer base. I have not checked out Jebs new deal yet but I will probab...

The two best that I have had in the last year were the 1990 Dom and the 1999 Cristal. The one I have enjoyed lately as more of an every day wine has been the NV Charles Heidsieck Brut Rose Reserve. 1990 Margaux. My epiphany wine. I was blown away by it. For whatever reason I am drawn to Chateau Margaux in general but the 1990 was probably what pushed me over the edge.

Krug vs. Cristal

I was at a wine dinner over the weekend with some seasoned wine drinkers. One such veteran made the claim that Krug was superior to Cristal and Dom. I pointed out that I just had a 1999 Cristal with some nice bottle age that really blew my mind. Same with a 1996 Dom. This gentleman was not buying wh...

I had a bunch of the 1997 Tapestry and it was excellent and aged well. The 2006 was ok. The BV GdLT is another level. When it is good, it can be really good. If money is no object =, I would go GdLT all day.

I'm not sure why you ask. Does it matter? If you are asking as ITB, then that is different. But for a consumer, who cares? Does the wine please you? Why get hung up in the chemistry? I'm not sure why you are responding like this. Why would it matter if the person is ITB or not? Curiosity is a great...
