The Climats and Lieux-Dits of the Great Vineyards by Landrieu-Lussigny and Pitiot.... what Tiem's Champagne book did for the region, Landrieu-Lussigny's and Pitiot's book did for Burgundy. It is a remarkable reference point with wonderful maps. Highly recommended.

I guess all it took was for the old dame to croak, for the domaine to find some dignity. If she had passed 15 years ago, perhaps many would have been spared a small fortune in bad bottles.

Yes, the 9, 11 and 13. The 11 was simply god-awful. The 9 was not much better. The 13 was the best of the bunch, but that was not a high bar, and at the price point of $100-$180 / per, it is practically at orphan barrel levels of marketing hype / little substance.

i know jason didnt want his winemakers working on any other projects (even their own); i'm guessing sam didn't want to be tied exclusively to Nine Suns and they parted ways. for jason to then replace him with melka, who must have upwards of 40 projects, is a real head scratcher.

Very surprised they went the Melka route. Everything Jason ever said was how he never wanted a consulting winemaker, and how he never wanted Nine Suns to be about the name-brand winemaker first. And that was just about 1.5 years ago.

I think very highly of Adam's style. I still find it off putting when a winemaker on a new project expects people to plunk down $1000 for wine no one has tried. When a respected winemaker goes the lifestyle brand route, its disappointing.

What's interesting is that none of the bottles specified by Lazar, outside of maybe the 82 Bollinger VV are anywhere near the $1400 average bottle price, but that is what was paid out on a per bottle average by the insurance company for the lot of missing wine.
