Re: TN: J. J. Prüm, Truchot, Egon Müller

[soap.gif] Nope - I’m suggesting that if price is truly the least interesting thing about wine then you must be able to ignore it. Of course... if you're not an auction buyer in the first place, which is obviously the implication. The wine I’m taking about is a wine that is only sold at auction. Yo...

Re: TN: J. J. Prüm, Truchot, Egon Müller

[soap.gif] Here is post 3, so you can clear up the EPIC misunderstanding: David rarely pays the high prices required to buy Egon's wines. You suggest that he doesn't have to worry about price simply because he doesn't care about the German auction prices. What's the confusion Nope - I’m suggesting ...

Re: TN: J. J. Prüm, Truchot, Egon Müller

Awesome for you if you don’t have to pay attention to price. But I have limited resources so I have to be interested in the price at which wines are sold and I have to make relative value decisions. For something like this, the auction price is the lowest price at which it will ever be sold (by def...

Re: 2018 Bordeaux Futures - What Did Everyone Buy?

Yes of course it's still supply and demand, I just said it is not typical. You and others know obviously know way more about Bordeaux than me, but as a amateur observer, I think it's different because: 1) The chateaux adjust their prices dramatically based on vintage/perceived demand. But because t...

Re: 2018 Bordeaux Futures - What Did Everyone Buy?

That has ZERO basis in reality. Prices are set by supply and demand when it comes to luxury goods. I actually don't think the pricing is set by typical supply and consumer demand, thanks to the negociant system. Re: 2018 Bordeaux Futures - What Did Everyone Buy?

My local retailer just got in a big chunk of fine Bordeaux from 2000-2005, including Lalande, Montrose and Ducru. I can buy the 2005 Lalande for $20 less than 2018 futures and only $20 more than 2017. No brainer right there. The 2000 Montrose is only $20 more than the 2016. The 2001 Montrose is les...

Re: need evidence that these famous critics were fooled

Your fallacy is assuming that a real 1921 would've elicited the same "out of this universe" reaction. Just given the age, bottle variation, and any storage provenance issues associated with such a wine, I wouldn't expect such a wine to always be great. Your second fallacy is assuming that the fake w...

There are umpteen gazillion references to top-down processing on Google.
