I second that recommendation. It's older, but if you've never read it, it is well worthwhile. It is my favorite wine book by far. Make sure to get the revised edition as it includes additional reading.

Re: Eto - a new way to preserve wine

If you are pouring the entire wine bottle into the Eto, aren't you oxygenating the entire bottle of wine? Isn't that the most violent act you can do to a wine, which is pour it into a decanter? If you seal the decanter off air going forward, wouldn't this still be less ideal than say a Coravin? Or ...

Heavier bottles are not necessary, just like wax capsules are not necessary. Neither makes the contents of the bottle any better and it just adds inconvenience and extra costs.

Glasses arrived a day early in perfect condition. They look gorgeous. The Liberte looks quite similar to the Gabriel Gold glass but is even lighter. The 1855 resembles the Zalto Bordeaux but is lighter. I like the wide bases, too. The Cru looks like a great alternative to the huge Zalto Burgundy and...

I received the spring release offer from Arnot Roberts today and in it is the 2016 Montecillo Vineyard Cabernet, at $90. While $50 for Bedrock's 2017 version of the Cab is still expensive to me, given the quality of their wines it just pointed out how relatively reasonable Bedrock's pricing is.

It all depends on the markups and profit margins each winery aims to achieve. Let's say you have a Napa winery that charges $500 a bottle. What is their true profit margin? Some wineries build in huge markups, some not so much; so how a "gift" factors into the price you pay is just one of the costs ...
