I like my wine young and primary so take this with a grain of salt. Over the last 12 months, I’ve had 2005 Duhart-Milon, d'Issan, Pontet-Canet, and Cantenac Brown. All were good and pleasurable. If you want the nuances than can only develop over time, 2025 may be the sweet spot.

2011 Cabot Vineyards Syrah Marier Vineyard Humboldt County

I believe this was a Berserker day purchase.

2011 was a cool year for this vineyard and this shows in the wine’s personality. Retrained, balanced, old world, and quite pleasurable to drink. Wish I had more.

I had a 2005 Brane-Cantenac the other night which was really nice. Mid-weight, proper claret. Should drink well over the next decade. Case price in UK is less than $1,000 USD.

I am pretty sure that both wines were made 100% whole cluster, but that the 2016 was made using Carbonic maceration whereas the 2017 was not stated as such. This will lead to two very different wines indeed. That's your conclusion, which is speculation. The '16 did not show carbonic character last ...

Agree with the Bordeaux recommendations. I would throw in Leoville Poyferre as well which won't break the bank. Perhaps wrap in a Tom Brady jersey and have some of the greatness seep into the bottles..
