Re: West Sonoma Coast (Extreme coast/Fort Ross Seaview) Pinot Noirs

https://www.raenwinery.com/ I have a few cases of different vintages. These are the Mondavi grandsons...for whatever thats worth. https://www.hirschvineyards.com/ They are high elevation north of Jenner on the coast. Their wines take some age to develop...can be a bit harsh young but I dig them with...

Re: Official Costco Thread

I've more or less given up on the Costco near me (Bloomingdale in the Chicago area). Haven't seen anything of note in a few years now...unless I'm just not going enough... Or they've given up because there are so many Binny's stores in the Chicago area. It's hit and miss but the Lake Zurich IL Cost...

Napa Trip - Tasting Rooms or Walk-In Wineries

I've searched the archives a bit, but trying to search for "Napa" info on this site isn't the easiest. My wife and I are staying in Napa 5 days next week with a few other couples. We have several formal tastings and tours lined up with some excellent producers, but I would love if anyone can sugges...

Madame Bize-Leroy: making wine to a recipe?

I'll attempt to clear up some of the confusion. Lalou Bize-Leroy directs three enterprises: 1) Maison Leroy, which celebrates its 150th anniversary, a négociant that purchases wines and bottles them, releasing them under its label. Traditionally the Maison was a serious négociant and often sourced ...

Cellar disaster. Need advice

thanks Al. Im running a HEPA filter now 24x7. Im going to check on it at end of week and see how it's doing. I did read up on the risks of the Ozone generator and it appears you need to run it in a closed confined room with nobody breathing it. Once done you can vent the room and let it sit for a wh...

Cellar disaster. Need advice

thanks all...great advice from all. with a few days of just airing out the smell is still strong so I think I have to go David Cohen's suggestion and get the Ozone generator. A simple hepa filter isn't even making a dent. I think the smoke got behind the walls too just due to the location of where t...

Cellar disaster. Need advice

Hi all I need some advice. Had a bad situation happen this weekend with my wine cellar. My cellar is a room in a in a corner of the basement, insulated etc. In the back of the cellar behind the wall is an ash cleanout shoot for the fireplace on the floor above that was there when the house was built...

Recommendations for an under-cabinet wine fridge?

I have a Liebherr but it's the full size 140 bottle one. It's been flawless for 7 years going now. Highly recommend it...but it's pricy.

Steve Kistler stepping down from Kistler Vineyards

Did anyone get the mailing list letter about Steve Kistler stepping down from Kistler Vineyards to focus on Occidental. I'm not quite sure what to make of this. I also don't fully understand why there is a 2nd winery. Does he not own Kistler Vineyards anymore? I've only been on the Kistler and Occid...

What are people drinking for Thanksgiving?

Over 40+ Thanksgivings I've formulated my own rules. Second, serve the guest. I tried for year to use family and holiday gatherings to advance wine education, but learned that this better be pushed back several notches in the selection process. You may be able to provide an epiphanic experience to ...

Castle Temperature?

Ok, this is a new one. Reading the back of an Oregon Pinot bottle it says to serve at "Castle Temperature". I can guess it means cellar temp but if anyone knows otherwise let me know. Quick search came up with no reference to Castle temperature and wine.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

For those who are fans of Cask 23, I just came back from Costco today and they are selling the '13 for $159 a bottle, way below any price I've seen on this top vintage.

Confessions of a wine addict

The doorbell rings, there is the Fedex/UPS man…ahh more wine. When did I order this? Who did I order from, to the smartphone to check cellar tracker. Ahh yes I did order that last year. Off to the cellar I built just over a year ago. Man it was big at the time, room for over 1000 bottles. Open the d...

Wine Cellar Build Budget

I just did a similar sized cellar with a room like yours, outside wall in basement with the window. Happy to share my construction plans and costs. Im not handy so I had a contractor do all the work so the room build out (minus racks) was about $9k. Racking and cooling unit cost me about another 9k....

Racking Solutions for Offsite Storage

I don't do offsite storage but a friend of mind does. He uses Uline heavy cardboard tubes stacked tightly into the space, then slides bottles double deep into them. no labeling but I watched him and he can quickly slide bottles in and out to check on what he wants. http://www.uline.com/BL_3704/Jumbo...

Cork exposure and bottle aging

Let me preface this by saying that Im relatively new to the board. I've been collecting for about 6 years. Last year I finally decided to build a cellar for long term storage. I chunked down for some nice racking. Part of the racking has one of those angled display shelves. The other day I noticed, ...

Anyone need some wine racks?

I have some free wine racks if anyone wants them. They are decent quality pine racks. I have 2 available. Each holds about 110 bottles. Burgundy bottles don't fit well but regular Cab/Bordeaux 750's fit fine. Both are pine but one is stained a dark mahogany. Again, not selling them, they are free. I...

"Illinois sends over 100 cease and desist letters"

i'd say this is getting bad for IL Wine consumers. I was just contacted by Vinfolio in San Fran that they are no longer shipping to IL (they were holding one of my orders). They said it's primarily due to the law suits being raised against out of state wine retailers. This is more related to the tax...

Wineries and Retailers Beware of Shipping to Illinois

Wine exchange in orange county just stopped shipping to IL. I had an order canceled today. This is a cluster and as far as I can tell its just profiteering of this one attorney on confusing tax law.
