Calif's New Agoston Haraszthy..

Wow. I tried searching FPS a while back... Maybe I misspelled it. I font recall anyone ever mentioning Savagnin Blanc in Jura. I'll have to do some more research into it. I'll be there in June for a bit. What producers there say about varieties and mutations vs what things actually are often don't l...

Calif's New Agoston Haraszthy..

Can we make a wishlist?

I'd love to get some Savagnin: gros, vert, and jaune.

2013 Rhys, Horseshoe, Syrah.

Just chiming in to confirm these are great wines. I drank the 2012 Syrah among some younger Rhys wines this week and it was my favorite by far. The way it grabbed me at the first whiff and sip was the same. It seemed so pleasantly balanced stylistically. Between overt fruit of CA and rusticity/barny...

Great Grower Champagnes

Prevost: Only had Les Beguines once and found it to be a singular expression of Pinot Meunier: the exotic flavor profile is there but the structure and focus are something rare. Also very vinous. Rose de Jeannes: Bought two bottles Côte de Val Vilaine, both were faulty, will not buy again :( Prevos...

Chateau Musar and similar cuvées.

Really cool thread. I didn't read all the posts, so some of my recommendations were probably name-dropped already. I definitely feel like there are plenty of wines out there that are similar to Musar. I mean, come on... There are so many wines made in the world, to say Musar is absolutely unique is ...

What quality red wines see zero oak?

Overnoy's Ploussard is fermented and aged in stainless these days. Plenty of other Jura reds done entirely in stainless.

Cornelissen doesn't use any oak at all.

I realize these aren't board favorites, but there are many "natural" producers that avoid oak entirely.

Australian must try wines???

I don't post much on here, just lurking, but I'm in the Adelaide Hills. There is some really neat stuff going on here. Several more "natural" guys. Check out Jauma, Domaine Lucci, Gentle Folk, Commune of Buttons, Manon, Ochota Barrels, and BK.

I opened a 97 last year. It had questionable provenance but showed superbly. No rush to open soon, but you're in for a treat whenever you do.

Interesting comment relating it to Northern Rhone.

I had a Herve Souhout Ardeche Syrah a few days ago blind. The first whiff had me thinking of Fleurie. Once it started opening up though, it started to stray from that pretty quickly.

The Arnot-Roberts wine is a Trousseau Noir.

I do suggest seeking out some Trousseau Gris, as they are usually cheap and delicious. I really like what Wind Gap and Salinia do with the varietal.

This is the first year that I have really been into wine. As such, I had many discoveries and have constantly been learning. I dont really like scoring wines, so my favorites aren't based on CT scores or anything like that. They are simply the wines that impressed me the most, usually evoking explet...

White Truffle Lovers: Black Friday Arrives (With Notes From the Last Supper of Truffles for 2015)!

Yeah. Sure, I can buy all the truffles that I want of every color, but there ain't a single dog in Italia who can sniff me out an After Eight dinner mint. Or a plate of huevos rancheros. Or an order of hot Cafe du Monde beignets... This is what I love about this board: tons of experienced/educated ...

Anderson Valley Wineries to visit

Came to the board to look for Anderson Valley recommendations and there is already a thread going. I'm going to be doing some exploring this weekend. Road Trip to Santa Cruz. Need winery advice.

I'm driving up to the Santa Cruz area from Santa Barbara, taking HWY 1, on Tuesday the 28th. I looked back at some older threads and got some ideas, but am wondering if there is anything new I should check out. I'm thinking of driving into the city and going to Surf City Vintners. Is it worth a stop...

Are you looking for wines similar in style to Champagne, or just good sparkly stuff?

Lots of good Cremants come in under $30. I've had delicious Blanquette de Limoux for less than $20.

But the question isn't whether the wine is GOOD, it's whether its BALANCED or, more specifically, what BALANCED means when used to describe a wine other than "Me likes it lots". This thread was actually about the 2012 Kutch Flastaff. The 'balanced' semantics can wait for the next unavoidable IPOB/A...
