When we remodeled out tiny kitchen we removed the microwave to add more cabinets. Haven't missed it in 10 years.*
Can't say I know of any health effects, but can't do crispy in the microwave.

*Except for microwave popcorn. Almost as addictive as movie theater popcorn.
