Re: 2019 Rivers-Marie Spring Offer

In for my usual case and a half. These are excellent every damn time. Every vineyard, Sonoma too. At a great price. And a crowd-pleaser every time. "This Pinot is so good! I don't usually have Pinot this good." -- from guests, every time.

Re: Favorite Champagne Glasses???

We tested this last night, comparing a Gabriel Gold to a Zalto Champaign glass. The outcome was that we preferred the Zalto Champaign glass. Visually the Champaign looked better with the fine bubbles flying up from a narrow bottom (heh). We also noticed no difference in flavor, with a slight advanta...

Re: How Long To Decant 1977 Taylor's Vintage Port?

I am giving it about five hours, which is about half the time I normally give ports from the 80s and 90s. First impression is it will be probably an hour or two two long. Initial observations, from my cellar tracker: Opening for Christmas dinner. Debated about how long to debate before serving. Deci...

Opening a bottle of 1977 Taylor's VP for Christmas dinner. Been a couple years since we've had a 1977. What's the ideal decant timing these days? Thank you in advance!

Want to Buy Littorai BUT....

In support of the posts immediately above, as I think about our two Napa Valley / Sebastopol visits last year, out of maybe 15 wineries visited, Littorai was the second-most expensive tasting (around $50 per person, if I recall?), after Schramsberg which included a long and detailed tour and a sit-d...

Want to Buy Littorai BUT....

As for their price per bottle, can’t fault them for charging what the market will bear, and I’m sure operating costs continue to climb. I tend to agree with this, but add in all the various costs together, and it appears the market is starting to not bear it... Damn shame because as Larry said, the...

Small Napa Wineries to Visit

Visit School House Winery for a fabulous Pinot and Syrah blend that are among the coolest weather and most elegant wines being made in the Napa Valley. Highly recommend going over to Sebastopol for a day to taste with likes of Kutch, Lynmar, Scherrer and others. We’ve done this twice now after going...

We really enjoy Littorai, but when I put my six pack in for the current offering, it ended up at around $700 total. I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger on this, considering all the other excellent Pinot at much lower prices. Paying twice for shipping on a six pack doesn’t help. (Releases in M...

Dropping off wine lists and it feels........good!!

It’s interesting to me that people are surprised by “big” numbers of lists. A list is just a producer, right? If you only buy winery-direct, it doesn’t seem strange or extreme to me to have 25 or 40 producers represented in a collection, especially if some producers do multiple varieties, reds and ...

Dropping off wine lists and it feels........good!!

So, we visit Napa once or twice a year, and try to taste at new (to us) wineries for at least half of our visits. Then we buy from nearly all of them, to commemorate the visit if nothing else. Then we get on the lists. Then we get offers. Then we buy more. In 2017 we visited twice and added two wine...

I've saved some 1-3-6 bottle boxes. Almost all of them have the "this package contains alcohol and must be signed for" sticker. I want to send some friends and clients wine. Can I use these boxes? Are those stickers ok? How do you ship? Will all of USPS, Fedex and UPS ship wine? Thanks for the tips.

Noah, I think that's up to every individual. I like to know what these taste like early, so I can compare them later. But frankly, at this level, it's so good, that (for our tastes) I see no reason to wait. Although we likely will, because these are very special bottles to us.

Do you now find R-M Pinot to be too sweet? It's certainly more of the "normal" Cali style than Ceritas, Littorai or Kutch. I find them all to be great, same with Quivet and Myriad (although I am a true omnivore when it comes to wine). I'm wondering if maybe it's more this particular bottling of Qui...
