Re: 2016 Scarecrow Allocation

I've been buying the last few years, and this is the first year I think I've been offered a magnum. The $400/750ml doesn't bother me, as I think Scarecrow drinks very favorably with other wines at that price point. I'm not sure how I feel about the $1500/magnum though. That's a lot of markup, but th...

Checking Cellartracker..."Holy sh!t!!! My wife is going to kill me if she ever sees this! I have to stop complaining about her shoe purchases!" I don't mind voting in the poll -- find it fun even. But damn, it is better just to not look at what I've spent on the wine currently in my cellar. The only...

2017 vintage Schrader Allocation coming up

Just got my packet in the mail about the 2017 vintage release of Schrader. My window opens up on the 12th for a "Fabulous" pack with 5 wines: 2 2017 CCS, 2 2017 RBS, and 1 2017 GIII. $1125 -- still holding at $225 a bottle, and that's money well spent in my opinion. I don't like the $68 shipping cha...

How many years did you guys purchase allocations before Old Sparky finally showed up? I got my first allocation in 2013. This year I was offered (and bought) a "Fabulous" pack of 2 RBS, 2 GIII, and 1 CCS.

I'm just wondering how much longer it might be until I get a chance to buy Old Sparky.

A quick note -- I believe the $473 quoted wasn't just for shipping. I believe the person who posted that included the tax they were charged on the wine itself in that amount. I think the amount of shipping + tax-on-shipping was roughly half of what was quoted. Still ridiculous -- but not $473.

We should separate 2 things here -- tax on the wine itself and shipping (plus tax on shipping). The winery can't help the tax on the wine itself -- that's up to the state it is sold in, so if you're unhappy about sales tax in your state, take it up with your elected officials (and perhaps vote for d...
