Palate cleansing between dessert wines at tasting

great advice! The sherry is, in fact, PX, so I do have it as the next to last, mostly due to the super sweetness factor, and I'll be ending with the coffee and the Cappellano because its...well..."different". I also like the suggestion to cleans with beer. I was planning on serving salad and shepher...

Palate cleansing between dessert wines at tasting

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I knew from the start this was going to be a challenge for the group (possibly 20-24), but I am usually not one to shy from it. I agree the chinato is at the end due to its medicinal spice profile (personally, I love it, but then I used to fake sick to get cough syrup as ...

I apologize if this subject has been covered, but as the title indicates, I'm curious as to what your thoughts are on proper palate cleansing between courses of dessert wines. My concern is that most dessert wines are rather intense and some can be even syrupy. Will crackers and water get the job do...

Why Don't Restaurants List Wine Prices On Their Website

Nearly all these comments reinforce my contention that, when feasible, bring your own wine, pay the corkage, and rest assured in your selection. Even when we were in Maui a few months back, I was able to find a nice selection of Brewer-Clifton, DuMol, etc. I find most wines lists a crap-shoot.

Are There Any Lists You Will Not Drop?

As someone only using allocations for the past 5 years, the topic made me stop to consider if, in fact, I would be willing to drop off a list after only recently being added to several. I think the answer has alot to do with the availability of the allocated wines locally. Up until last year, I coul...

Master Schedule of Releases: for Wineries to adhere to!

While I agree this would be beneficial, it seems like a logistical nightmare as wineries come and go, and have their own changes to schedules, etc. As for eliminating lists, no can do. 90% of the wines I buy aren't available locally for me, and after-market pricing is a joke. Cutting the number of b...

Do wine fridges make economic sense?

So I'm a bit confused because I read recently that most wine "fridges" are not meant for aging your collection, but rather for storing wine you expect to consume in about a year, hence, if you drink on average one bottle a day, something in the 100-300 bottle range is fine. However, only a few quali...

I want to also suggest the PS from Switchback. The last two vintages were a dream early on and I'm hoping will do well after 15+ in storage. The one thing this discussion has done is made me want to see how off-putting the Ridge PS can be as I have yet to drink one.
