Re: where to eat in Boston and Portland, Maine?

Glad to see you enjoyed your meal at Troquet and I agree with you on your assessment of Time Out. I've had two good experiences there, but agree it's very overwhelming!! Since the original thread title includes Portland, Maine, I also wanted to pop in with one more recommendation for anyone looking:...

Re: Stockholm and Oslo.......all kinds of advice needed.

I was just in Stockholm last month for a day (part of a Baltic Sea Cruise), but we ran over to the Hairy Pig Restaurant (recommended by wine friends) and it was amazing! Casual pub-like place. They work with local farms for all their food and make delicious charcuterie and house-made sausages. A Per...

I've only been here a little longer than a year, but a few of my favorites are: * Island Creek Oyster Bar and Eastern Standard near Fenway; or Row 34 in the Seaport * Bar Mazana; also by the same group: No Relation (sushi bar omakase style, limited seats, tickets required) and they just opened Black...

Re: Boston Retail Scene?

Avoid Central Bottle in Cambridge. Their wines are good (if narrow) but the prices are tear-inducing. I believe they are no more, replaced by a shop called Social Wines which has a more normalized selection and pricing policy, and a very nice owner. That's too bad, they were always the best place t...

Hi and welcome to Boston! I'm fairly new up here, too (as of March 2018). If you're curious about smaller producers, Ansonia Wines (an importer in Newton, which often has retail hours on weekends) might be worth checking out, too.

Just opened the 2016 Heron Lake Pinot last night -- it's such a pretty wine!! Confirmed my decision to make sure I order the '17 during this release! I've enjoyed the handful of wines that are "pre-phylloxera," (so not a lot of experience with them), but to me, it just speaks to the hardiness of the vines (they're survivors!) and just part of the wine's story. For me, that adds a bit of enjoyment to the wine, even if scientifically it doesn't do ...

mcarthurs, schneiders and weygandts are among the main stays of D.C. wine. If you want something a little funkier, consider checking out Grand Cata (mostly spanish wines - think spain and south america with some italy and other places thrown in - but they may have something fun to consider).
