Re: Napa Cabernet Harvest
I don’t think anyone in Napa has picked any Cabernet Sauvignon yet. And, yes, there’s a chance of rain in the forecast for Monday 9/16 but it will be light at best (less than 1/10 inch) so not likely to present a problem.

The California numbers for 2017 show that Cabernet Sauvignon exceeds Zin in both acres (85K vs 43K) and tons crushed (602K vs 365K). I was googling Rubired and Ruby Cabernet and read about Olmo grapes. Did you work with him? Pretty important contributions. No, I never worked with Harold Olmo. I was...

There’s not a lot of tribidrag left in Croatia anymore, to my knowledge, though I know Carole Meredith is on these boards and I’m sure could speak vastly more authoritatively on the subject. There has been quite a lot of new Tribidrag planting in the last few years. This is understandable consideri...

Re: Pierce's Disease and Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter
Pierce's Disease is caused by a bacterium that is introduced into the plant by an insect. The disease affects the internal tissues of grapevines (and a few other plants, including olives and almonds). Neither the bacterium or the vectoring insect has any effect on humans.

I haven't taken the time to Google all the unfamiliar grapes (e.g., beclan and West's White Prolific) to see if we know them by other names. I'm guessing that Valdepenas may be tempranillo, since it's the dominant grape in the Valdepenas appellation in Spain. West's White Prolific was an old Califo...

Most labels, AFAIK, are just repeats of previous year's. Is it actually not legal to go ahead and bottle with an unapproved label, or is the problem that you don't want to risk doing that, and having them come back with a problem after the fact? Many small updates to labels do not need to be re-sub...

The first vines at Lagier Meredith were planted in 1994. I think they made some wine in 1996 and 1997, but were not yet bonded as a winery.
