Will echo Mondavi To Kalon Reserve.

Had the 2010 a couple of weeks back and it was shockingly balanced. Far from AFWE for sure, but definitely a more restrained expression. Was shocked to see 15% abv on the label, as I would have guessed no more than 14%. Loved it.

What would you all recommend for transportation in Douro/Pinhao? Right now we are planning on hiring a driver/car for a full day and spending the other relying on our feet and local transport.

The early 2000s Pax Syrahs were in the +-15% abv range and were quite large. While the new Pax wines are bigger than Wind Gap, they are far from the bombs they used to be.

The only good thing about their Winery Direct program is that it includes the majority of their classified growth Bordeaux so their "Winery Direct" coupons apply to most all of them. I got some great deals on 2014 Bordeaux that way.

I don't plan on posting the retailer in the thread. I disagree with them. But I also respect their right not to sell to people, even if the decision doesn't necessarily seem rational. I doubt they will be able to run a successful business if that sort of customer service is commonplace.
