Recommended producers (all Vintage '59 Imports): Thierry Merlin-Cherrier, Bue - He owns a small parcel of Le Chene Marchand, but his AC wine is very good as well. Also look for Lucien Crochet, who has larger holdings in Le Chene Marchand. Matthias & Emile Roblin, Maimbray - The brothers' 'Ammonites'...

Another great but seemingly hard to find (or at least lesser-known) MP bottling would be Jean-Michel Gaunoux in Meursault. I've only tried their 2016 but it was very good. And even being tasted just after opening, definitely promising to be a great wine.

Owen and Engine, the British-style gastropub next to Fat Willie's at Western & Schubert, now allows BYO with $25 corkage. Not sure of glassware situation as I just called to confirm this. Their less-traditional (in terms of pub fare) dishes have always been worth trying.

My friend Cara and her partner Simi run a shop in South Mission (SOMA?) called DecantSF which has interesting selections. Worth checking out if you're in or close to the neighborhood.

In the midst of packing bottles to move between storage facilities.. set aside a (gifted) bottle of 2000 Bouchard Montrachet GC as the one I was going to be *extra *special careful to mind and take proper care of.

10 minutes later, juice and glass on the concrete floor. Yay.

It's easy to get to, about 1.5 hours south of Tijuana directly. Could easily do Thurs - Sun trip driving down from San Diego, best way is to fly into SD and drive across the border. Very good Baja labels (some are wineries, others just small independents) include Vena Cava, Bruma, Henri Lurton, Lech...

A lot of solid advice. Only thing I would add is that I have found Voillot’s wines to be gems on a regular basis. Also though, Lafarge and Montille wines generally really take some time in the cellar to really approach peak(I am less knowledgeable about Etienne de Montille’s wines than his dad’s. L...

The past 4 or so vintages of this wine have all been terrific within the first year of release with the '15s and '16s being very different from the '12-14s. Unfortunately, I no longer have any of this older than 2013. In my limited experience, this wine doesn't age well. Have tried the '07, '08, '0...

Good question! I haven't particularly splurged on anything above $100 except some 2007 Giacosa red labels, and even there the only risk would be should they be corked.
