Clean and citrus flavor, more grapefruit then lemon. Very soft bubbles which gives it a creamy note. Not the most complex wine but one full of enjoyment. Only bought 3 and should have doubled it. Fun stuff.

I took one of these for some friends in England this year and it was a hit with various cheeses and a cold pork pie. A lovely summer red with a bit of a chill. Definitely better with food.

One of the largest is the fact the the last 2 years of major fires in the wine country and surrounding areas have destroyed much of the “affordable” housing, most of which has yet to be replaced. Heading over today to go thru the picked over and left behinds. Bonny Doon is heading in a new direction which appears to be less Rhône based. Will get as much Syrah and as many 375s as I can.

This isn’t just an issue in wine country, but much of the San Francisco Bay Area. Workers who earn less than $25 an hour are priced out of living in the area, leaving service positions in every field wanting. There are restaurants closing because they can’t keep employees. This is a problem all over.

That’s simply how business works. If Parker’s name still has currency then buyer beware. People have to be responsible for reading the not so fine print on their own. And where I live, Ruth Chris is still the name of the steak house.

My issue is the statement that many in the US are emptying cases soon after purchase, as if that is some crime. I don’t care how long the vintners hold the wine, I just object to them telling me what to do after I purchase or insinuating that my choices are invalid.

Sorry bout the double post but could not figure out how to delete one. Yeah it turned well, maybe too well. Stuck 4 bottles into the “forget about it” part of the cellar and kept one out for a friend coming in a few months. Best blind buy I have ever made!

2014 Teroldego from West of Temperance

Oh my! A Berserker day purchase and a grape I know nothing about but boy is this some really great wine!. Angular and crunchy, bright acid spine that cut through a marbled Flannery ribeye. Definitely red cherry and hint of coffee with some tannic bite. Reminds me of Gamey Beaujolais. My WOTY so far....

K&L has a pretty extensive selection and is in both San Francisco and Menlo Park. Many Santa Cruz appellation wineries are open and closer than Napa.

I had this issue with a few Ridge Estate Chardonnays. The matchstick- sulfur nose was, to me, overpowering and I returned it. The replacement was the same and I tried a splash decant and let it sit for a few hours. Still smelled of struck matches. Could not get past it.

Tasting groups are a real education if you approach them with an open attitude and confidence in your palate. I have learned that some wine work with age better than others for me.
