Could feel it coming a few years back. Seemed to lack focus after the Popelouchum launch. Loved driving to the tasting room in Davenport and will miss the great staff, but he seemed not to care much lately. Will really mis the Syrahs and Telegraph. Ah well.

I pulled off steak au-poivre with Flannery filets. Nearly singed my eyebrows but it was phenomenal. Family dug in before I could take photos which was one of the best compliments. Not difficult but dangerous! I did the flaming outside with an extinguisher close at hand.

I really hope there’s some half bottle offers this year.
Virage offered half-bottles of rosé last year, which was great. Hope to see those again this year, along with some 375s from other producers.
I bought a case of Virage 375s Bordeaux blends last year which were great!

I bid on occasion and usually only once. If I see something I want, I bid and let the chips fall. I don’t snipe and if overbid, so be it. The good thing is all the wines I have purchased on Winebid have been in good shape.

I would love to get a report card of the sparkling vermentino.
Clean and citrus flavor, more grapefruit then lemon. Very soft bubbles which gives it a creamy note. Not the most complex wine but one full of enjoyment. Only bought 3 and should have doubled it. Fun stuff.

This isn’t just an issue in wine country, but much of the San Francisco Bay Area. Workers who earn less than $25 an hour are priced out of living in the area, leaving service positions in every field wanting. There are restaurants closing because they can’t keep employees. This is a problem all over.

My issue is the statement that many in the US are emptying cases soon after purchase, as if that is some crime. I don’t care how long the vintners hold the wine, I just object to them telling me what to do after I purchase or insinuating that my choices are invalid.
