IMHO tipping is a way to compensate servers who get paid a crappy wage or those who provide a direct service. I will tip at bars and restaurants, the cable person and the person who towed my car. I sent an email and canceled my membership. They were kind enough to reimburse the estate bottles price since they had not been picked up. Decided that I am not a futures kind of wine buyer.

Sparkling crosses Chardonnay, Pinot and Zins and is now about 30-40% of my bottles.
Currently 95% from California.

I hold pretty tight to a 2 grand limit per year. We have no mortgage, no children to school, and a stable 200 grand retirement income. I could spend more but don’t get enough pleasure from higher priced bottles to justify. I have gotten more willing to open up the purse strings for the vintage ports...

I strongly advise taking advantage of the futures tasting events. They tend to show really well on release. Then shut down. Then gradually start opening up again. Then continuing to improve. This. Set a budget! Allow yourself to go over by 10% then-Stick to it. There are many great offers and they come fast. Take advantage of good deals on exploration wines, varieties that you have wanted to try or grapes you are unfamiliar with. If you like beef, Flannery’s is awesome.

Martin Ray Santa Cruz Mountain Cabernet 1995. Bought from winebid and was everything I want from a well aged cab, velvety mouth feel, great blend of fruit and forest floor. The best red wine I have had in several years.
