Re: New here: tips on SQN aging

I love SQN right out of the gate with a good decant - and if not, then I like at least 3 years - I feel it is in an awkward place between 1-4 years or so.... never allowed them to get much older than that though ;) but we will all have our own takes - pop one and see what you think. They are made to...

They are one of my favorite producers in Burgundy - they have recently started to expand their small holdings - before was only Chambolle (75% of their land) and Nuit - love them.

Others have mentioned: Simone, Cibonne, Tempier, Gros Noré - all super followed by value Peyrassol BUT for me: Clos Signadore is my hands down favorite, from Corsica and for me blows away Lecia on all fronts (the red is stunning too!!) - fairly new to market (a few years) and not known very well -- ...

They may well be of interest - there is a whole corkscrew/wine stuff collectible subculture out there. I have no idea if those are of any value (probably not as they seem more curio) but you should email Gerovassiliou at his website - https://www.gerovassiliou.gr/en/node - he has a very cool and won...

That was a good article. The sad part of it is that I would imagine the majority of the sommeliers he's criticizing will read that article and immediately decry it as a grumpy "old" man who is out of touch with today's wine drinker. I think more will read and not see themselves - willfully obtuse -

Only makes sense if the increase in volume you're moving increases proportionally to the discount you're offering to cover the bottom line. Corporate accounts are typically what you'd be looking for as they're buying a significant amount more than an neighboring employee or single-party (generally)...

Have to say that it really depends on who/what you are. I've lived most of my life in NYC and I wasn't a fan of Madrid, but I ADORED Barcelona and wound up making that my home base for 9 months. It was some time ago that I lived there and it has become a bit more of a college spring break type desti...

If you had to choose 15-20 producers to benchmark a N Rhone Vintage...

Good list to pick from above

but my personal favorites - which skew natural (and I am Not usually a natural fan) are: Jean Michel Stephan in Cote-Rotie (super natural) and Matthieu Barret's Domaine du Coulet in Cornas (more polished modern)

2 Questions in 1: Aged Bordeaux / Advice for Retailer

I would have credited your corked bottles against your pending purchase, though not all retailers do that (see what Jay above said) - it certainly is helpful to retailers to bring in the corked bottles (so they can either get credit back or to see for themselves the state of the wine), which was not...

Why So Much New World Bashing On The Board Lately?

There are good and not so good wines on both sides of the fence - I'd rather drink a New world wine then some current vintage 1st growth Bordeaux any day of the week and twice on sundays - I'd rather drink an old Grand Cru than any new world PN But the "bashing" I think has to do with wanting to joi...

Fining or Filtering in Wine

F&F doesn't really Add to the aroma or taste spectrum, it can however Subtract from it. There are strong arguments that by F&/orF you strip away some of the characteristics that are in the wine to make it "cleaner" - depends on the winemaker and their style or desire. Sometimes it's super important ...

Pros/Cons of wine tasting classes

I would recommend you find a really good wine bar and develop a relationship - most wine bars that I have run across are lacking, but there are a few stellar ones out there -- not sure where you live -- I really learned about wine by drinking, tasting, and being with it much more than a class - clas...

NY Restaurants Buying From CA

it's a bit of a gray area really. if the CA winery is super small, or have no distribution in NY then getting a case direct shipped will not be noticed - if they already have distribution in NY then there is no reason to direct buy (and they probably will not) -- I have had a case here and there shi...

also remember that some of the "haters" out there are not really - I worked the pebble beach festival one year and manfred did a seminar which i was lucky to work. a few left over open bottles somehow were brought down to the Sommelier room afterwards and all of a sudden all the "haters" were jumpin...
