Re: Opening wines before reaching restaurant

Oregon allows and encourages diners to take their opened bottles of wine home with them when they leave a restaurant, regardless of whether the wine was originally BYOB or purchased off the list. The only requirement is compliance with the open container law: the bottle must go in the trunk. A few r...

Re: Opening wines before reaching restaurant

The open container law here in Oregon deals with the problem with sports cars, hatchbacks, and station wagons. As I recall, it merely requires that the open bottle be as far away as possible from the driver.

Re: Opening wines before reaching restaurant

Or maybe they are concerned that your wine bottle is filled with gin. But none of this has anything at all to do with open container laws. Open container laws are motor vehicle laws. Walking into a restaurant on your own two feet has nothing to do with a motor vehicle. If there is a law restricting ...

Re: Opening wines before reaching restaurant

The open container law exists in every state. But that law has to do with driving with an open wine bottle in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. It has nothing to do with walking into a restaurant with an opened bottle. If there is a law prohibiting carrying an opened bottle into a restaurant, ...

Of course, sone of those responses are correct, and some incorrect. Every...

I can’t speak for others, but I BYOB for several reasons: 1. I know what I like to drink. 2. I don't like ordering unfamiliar bottles off a wine list. 3. I have a ton of wine in my basement, and it needs to be consumed in a timely manner (before it goes bad, and within my lifetime). 4. To save money.

A decent corkage policy is nearly universal in Seattle, so I see little need to call ahead, although one restaurant did have a $35 fee.
Purple (downtown and Bellevue) has good food, a huge wine list, and no corkage fee. Hard to beat.
