Oregon once banned license plate references to alcohol, but they often did not recognize some of the obscure wine references. Now they sell wine country plates. Go figure.
They also ban references to sex. But that's another story.

The "ungrateful" comment is based on the fact that suicide is a horrible thing to do to the people who love you. It is as selfish act, often accompanied by mental illness.

Good point. The fact that he committed suicide is pretty crummy, too. On the whole, a very sad story for all concerned, but particularly sad for the thief and his family. Read the entire article yourself and decide whether it took the wrong tone. To me, the article did not romanticize the thief or describe him as a saint. I am going to guess that you might possibly maybe be new to Bend. I think everybody there refers to it as central Oregon. You have to drive 100 or 200 miles to the right in order to reach eastern Oregon.

I bought a three litre bottle, had a dinner party and drank it, then turned the bottle into a table lamp. Reuse and recycle.

Out here in Oregon, liquor licenses were once allocated based on population. But I think that rule got dropped and I believe that anyone can now get a license. Society seems to have survived the change with no ill effects.

Last year, i shipped some wine to some friends using UPS. I was told that only certain UPS stores could ship wine. I used one of those stores and had no problem. Since then I have heard rumors that UPS has stopped shipping wine all together for private parties.

Is it possible that this is one of those retailers that has little or no inventory, but instead lists on its website wine that is listed by various local distributors, and if you order the wine, they will then place an order with a distributor?

If you had purchased this in a restaurant (which you did not), I would say that the winery sold this wine exclusively to restaurants so that the diners could not compare prices. Such wines usually lack a bar code.

I like to browse through the Schoonmaker Encyclopedia of Wine, revised by Bespaloff. No pictures, but the info is always interesting. Probably out of date, definitely out of print. But I still like it, and would recommend it.

I agree. When you have several similar bottles, it always helps to give the clerk a heads up that they are actually different. Then you don't have to stand there and wait while he fixes his error. And you get good karma.

I don't think you need to include extra tape in the box for customs to use to re-tape the box. I don't have any experience with customs, but TSA always uses their own tape to close up my styro cases when I fly with wine.
Maybe put a little extra tale in your luggage, just in case.

As others have suggested, I use the neoprene carriers. But I use the one-bottle carriers. If I have two bottles, I take two carriers. Or three.
