Hog Scrotum became one of my favorites for absurdity/laughter after reading a couple of his notes. I think he's the same guy who called out The Todd on the eBob forum several years ago. Either way, the notes are amusing if you're not too stuck up and his ratings seem to be pretty good.

I might not have the depth of experience for Californian Pinots, but I've always been a fan of Hartford's Lands Edge Vineyard Pinot. As for Oregon, my home state, I'd bring something that's indicative of a true Oregon Pinot, maybe something from one of the original producers like Erath, Ponzi, or Ey...

I can only relay personal experiences, but typically closeouts are bottles that have sat too long. Unfortunately, I've had a couple oxidized bottles. If the bottle is several years old and hasn't been in my possession, I'm usually skeptical about its quality.
