We had five whites, one red bottle this weekend Friday-Sunday. 3 drinkers, and even Grandpa had some Loire Chenin with lobster tails during lunch yesterday.

16 Alta Vista Gewurzt is a fine-boned example of the variety. Way less lichee than I’m used to, less viscous too.

14 Compagni Portis is a real acid test. A touch warm too but I liked it. I might have guessed old world blind.

Fruit nearly gone, mostly dust and flavor sprinkle-whiff of tannin. Good accompaniment for great Flannery but that’s about it.

Sort of boring en magnum, inaugural vintage.

I read this earlier in the week and tried to understand the seeming amalgam of the two issues that vex Mr. Betts: the invalidated exam and lack of diversity on the court.

I just found two more cases of red BR, pushing cache to 239 bottles after the 2012 Monte Rosso we drank. Wife keeps telling me how much she loved that wine too.

Had some lovely wines during this shelter-in-place (if you ever needed palpable evidence supporting why a cellar is important in life...) but this was the very best in my mind.


Top one or two Ridge Zins I’ve enjoyed and top 5 Zin of my life.

We all loved the 13 Nervo. Chris told me it was claret styled but we all thought it was a Zin thoroughbred. Inky and pungent, some spice on the medium finish.

I asked about the style I as don’t often associate big & rich with Mt. Veeder fruit.

The vineyard is south-facing and near Carneros. Was assured this is big, chewy, robust Cabernet.

I appreciate their honesty.

My Bedrock cellar project has commenced. By the end of the weekend I’ll have 216 bottles of Bedrock in one new, double-deep, wood rack!

Just a joyous bottle which made up for some duds on the actual birthday. This wine had real energy, both sweet & tart fruit easily appreciated, length without bitterness.
