Re: TN: 1996 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut (France, Champagne)

The 1996 Salon is probably the best Champagne that I've ever tasted, thanks to Jeff Nowak. The wine was very delicate, but it tasted like an elixir of the gods. Never had it since then, and maybe that is a good thing.

Decent Cab for a nice price

2016 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sonoma County, very nice wine for only $11. Good fruit, decent depth, I think that is one of the best Cabernet bargains around.

Re: Extra pay between Business and First

Thank you folks. Will go with biz though not terribly happy with the choices. The first class was on a 747, and the price of $3.5k seemed doable. But I will save $1k per person, so $2k all together. That will give Mel a lot of shoppig choices in Romania. The transatlantic flights are not the best, b...

I love to get Mezcal cocktails, and they are the rage here in San Diego. Like the mules a few years ago. Was tempted by Clase Azul, but the $220 price tag dissuaded me from getting one.

Extra pay between Business and First

I am looking at about $1000 to go First rather than Business on BA. Normally the difference may be 5k or so, and then there is no thinking. Both classes have lie flat, and that is the main reason for business rather than economy.

First time for Mel and I in Praha. Amazing city, fantastic 4 days here. Very friendly people, English widely spoken. I am seriously considering coming back here next month for 10 days or so. Liked it better than Vienna. Oh, and Bucharest is not to be mentioned in the same breath, except for food.

Champagne tn descriptor: oxidized or marzipan?

For some reason I find more and more Champagnes that taste oxidized to me. Yet some of my friends describe that taste as marzipan, and desirable. I really find it unpleasant, so I call it oxidized.

Curious, do you like it?
