Brought this to Press in St Helena last week, had it was some great NY Strips. Took about 90 minutes to really open up, when it did it was very nice. Graceful, long finish. Fruit was a bit tired, but still present. Tasted a few tables on it, and everyone really enjoyed.

One of my Top 5 lifetime wines. Thankfully I have one left, hope it shows just as well. From my notes our bottle took about 90 minutes to really open and hit it's stride, what are your thoughts (we did not decant).

Agreed. I could never swap zinfandel versus cabernet sauvignon. You'd be surprised. I did a tasting at Scherrer and asked Fred to break out some older Zin. Stopped buying new Napa vintages long ago and now just pick up the classics via auction. Mondavi Reserve, Dunn, Montelena, Anderson Conn V Reserve, Spottswoode are all easily available at way less than the current vintage prices, and they are already aged so I don't have to store them for 10 years+...

The tastings we do now usually involve just a small, private group and a host that has your undivided attention for an hour or two. In those situations we always slip them a $20 or more depending on the level of service and say 'grab a beer or two on us tonight'. If they were a shitty host, we don't...
