Missing 04 and 05 vintages of Scarecrow, but outside of those have each vintage going back to the '03 inaugural. I suppose my intention is to do a complete vertical tasting at some point, but also part of it is simply having the complete collection.

Spent some time in NE Ohio and noticed how expensive wine was compared to NY. Amen. The selection here is anemic at best, and the cost is usually greater than the cost to ship in from elsewhere. I share your birth year as well, and have tried 10 or so bottles from '73. We just drank a Cheval Blanc about two weeks ago that was terrific, a nice balance of fruit and integrated tannins, with a lovely, floral finish. I bought a bottle of ‘85 Marcel Juge Cornas for $50 about two years ago. I haven’t opened it yet, but the provenance was excellent.

I never understood the need for verticals but that's probably part of it. And as Larry notes, everyone has a different sense of "undrinkable". I opened this side by side with the 08 Dom Perignon and the Dom was the unanimous favorite. Maybe things will be different in 20 years. Brought this to Press in St Helena last week, had it was some great NY Strips. Took about 90 minutes to really open up, when it did it was very nice. Graceful, long finish. Fruit was a bit tired, but still present. Tasted a few tables on it, and everyone really enjoyed.

If they want an easy day, go to the Oxbow Market. Tasting rooms across the street south, across the street west and inside the Market. Agree with John on CM. Went there after Carter in November and it was night and day. CM was a standard corporate tasting hosted by a generic employee that had been the a week.
